Ugh. My usual run used to be around seven miles. Now I might be able to crank out three but it would be rough. I need to get back into it!!
What age were your LOs when you started running with them?
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
Hahahaha...miles.
How about feet?
When I did Couch to 5K last year, I could run about a mile, maybe 1.5. Now...maybe 500m? Lol.

I've run our Philadelphia Broad Street Run in the past which is 10 miles, but fell off the running bandwagon for a while. I'm starting to get back into it and had a 4 mile run last week. Yesterday I ran 3.5.
@Zbug: Do you mean in a jogger? LO was 10 months when I was able to run with him (my own endurance), but I think the BOB stroller recommendation is 8 months or older. I just wasn't ready yet
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@psw27: 4 months?!?!? that's it!! PLEASE share your secret. I want to love running more than anything because I totally need a stress relief and just want to feel that "freedom". What was the schedule you kept yourself accountable too? Did you totally hate it at first? What about side pain - that's one of the worst parts for me.

My husband and I ran our first marathon last year. Training was hard and took a lot of time, especially when you have little ones. Not sure if I'd do another marathon again - maybe the NYC one. I'd happily do more half marathons though. I'm not naturally a runner and only get that runner's high for short periods on my runs. But I do enjoy running now because it's one of the few moments where I'm left with just my thoughts. I started out running with a moms group. That helped me to get started.

Before babies I was running half marathons and doing a long run of 10 miles pretty regularly.
After LO #1 I was just starting to get back into running again and could run 1 miserable mile straight...then I got pregnant with DD.
Now I can run 4 miles without stopping by myself. The most I've gone with the jogging stroller (and both of my little sidekicks) is a little over 2. I'm starting a half marathon training plan on Monday!
Running is seriously my stress relief. It has been for a long time and I REALLY missed it during my pregnant years. And my husband missed his non-tense wife lol.

@mslipgloss, It is! I can go longer doing ntervals than I can run steady state for 20 min. My heart rate monitor doesn't lie on the heavy burn! Plus i have exercise induced asthma and falling arches, so I have my limits.
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
@blackbird: HRMs are so, so helpful! And unfortunately, I hear you on the falling arches . . . *ouch* I have been kinder to my body in the last few years, but time marches on.
Annnnnd, Imma hafta revise my estimated run length to 2 miles . . . as of yesterday!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@MsLipGloss: so you inspired me. You said I could do it and it was mental. So this morning I told myself I would run a full mile no matter the pain! And I did. Albeit at 4.5 mph, but I did it without stopping and I'm so happy. That's my new goal is at least one mile every gym day.

I am wanting to do Couch to 5k though! It just needs to quit raining so much!

Right now, I haven't been back to gym in a while but I could do 10 or 15 minutes on the elliptical. Haha.
If you forced me out on a track, I would do like 1 lap.
Oh, it wouldn't be a run, it would be a jog.
I was a sprinter in high school, so I could run fast but it wouldn't last long.
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
@Mrs. Pen: That is AWESOME!!! WOOT! And yeah, speed totally doesn't matter! How does the saying go . . . it doesn't matter how slow you go, you're still lapping everyone on the couch . . . ! I think at my *fastest*, which wasn't very fast, I was only averaging an 8 minute mile pace (for distances).

Before I was pregnant, I ran 5 consecutive miles at a time, every 2-3 days. So around 15 a week. During the summer, I was up to 8 miles for a run since I was training for a half.
I ran 13.1 for a half before but that was 4 years ago!
pomelo / 5720 posts
I did a 5k in December without training and it was hard, but manageable. I think I could probably run 4-5 if I trained a bit.

Prepregnancy: I was able to run 3 -4 miles no problem. Did a half marathon.
Post pregnancy: I just started to do some zumba last week (9 weeks post pregnancy) and I'm winded and piddle myself everytime I jump. I'm afraid to run and find out if a fountain of pee will be coming down my legs....
pomelo / 5820 posts
Right now I can do 6 without stopping. I'm signed up for a half marathon in May, so I'm working my way up to 10 mile long runs... and relying on race adrenaline to take me the additional 3.1 miles I run 4 miles 3x a week, with a long run on Sunday.
Before I started running, I couldn't run for 2 minutes without feeling like I was going to pass out and croak. It was a slow process, but if you set goals and stick to your gradual training, you can definitely do it!
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
right now i can do around 3 wo stopping. im still not a runner, but need my cardio before wt lifting!
nectarine / 2834 posts
@winniebee: i think we are also going to be fussy in the stroller by 30 min or so.
In my mind, I can run 5-6 miles (did 8 every Saturday morning with my mom friends before we moved) but i haven't run in about 3 months (damn winter) so it's probably more like 1-2 today!

I hate running. HATE it. I wish I liked it- it'd be a lot cheaper and easier than the other forms of exercise I actually like. I could probably run a very slow mile without stopping now, but it wouldn't be pretty. I'm doing the couch-to-5K program on the treadmill at my office gym a couple times a week in the hopes of building my endurance. I really want to run a 5K this summer and do it without stopping, no matter how slow I have to go.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@MsLipGloss: I'm so happy! I might try going up to 5mph next time. Usually I get that awful side pain about half a mile - but I didn't this time. Weird, huh?
blogger / persimmon / 1231 posts
@Mrs. Pen: good job on the mile! I've been missing running so much. Did cross country and track in high school, and I've always enjoyed running (hate treadmills though, gotta be outside!). I injured my knee (someone accidentally kicked me) and by the time I recovered I was pregnant. Literally ran twice before getting pregnant again. I swear, after this pregnancy I'm loading these kiddos up in the stroller and running every day!
pear / 1693 posts
Maybe like one? I haven't really tried since early pregnancy and LO is 7.5 moths.... Whoops
pomelo / 5000 posts
@Mrs. Pen: check out Jeff Galloway's walk-run programs. Easier on the body and it helps you from getting discouraged. I love it!
@Dandelion: I live in a healthy town with lots of runners--I would love to see this on a car around town!
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
@Mrs. Pen: I'm so happy you're happy! I hope you continue to find joy in it! (it's so darn empowering . . . especially if you believed for years and years that you just couldn't run . . . .I know I did!).
True story . . . I didn't know that I could run until I was in my 20's. After I hopped on a treadmill, a really good looking guy hopped on a treadmill directly opposite me, and I was too embarrassed to start walking after a few minutes . . . so I just kept running . . . 30 minutes later, I had run more than 3 miles, and I was so darn shocked!
hostess / wonderful honeydew / 32460 posts
now? probably 1/2 max.
I used to run 5+, no prob!
nectarine / 2217 posts
just wanted to say that this is a really inspiring thread!
will think about it when I'm on the treadmill at the gym this week...
I just signed up for the gym a few days ago after 2 years of being pregnant prior to babies I could only run about 3 miles, and currently only .5 mile without walking.
