I am realizing that if we spend 20 minutes picking up each and every day, the house stays in pretty good shape!
Unfortunately, we very rarely spend those 20 minutes picking up. Today I had a friend came over though, so I was extremely motivated to pick up the apartment, vacuum and mop. The whole time I was thinking, "This could all have been avoided if I just picked up 20 minutes a day!" Working on it...
How many minutes do you spend picking up every day?

A lot! I can't stand mess so I'm constantly picking things up and cleaning. And I definitely can't sit back and relax if there are chores to be done, so a lot of the girls' nap times are spent doing household tasks. I actually find it kind of enjoyable though, clearly I'm a freak!

D picks up after himself in the living room (his room is another story.) It takes me about 30 seconds to pick up after M. He doesn't have that many toys, yet.

Every time DS goes to sleep - nap time, bedtime - the first thing I do is go around and pick up all the rooms! I am rubbish about cleaning but things must be tidy - even if he messes it up again as soon as he gets up. Our flat is just too small to let it build up - we wouldn't be able to see the floor by the end of the day!

We generally don't pick up unless people are coming over (which is why I love it when people come over - I get a clean house out of it!). I've been *trying* to pick up every night while DH is doing bedtime with L, and I've been getting better. The kitchen is a whole other story though...

I'm a bit of a neat freak so will pick up and clean every chance I get during the day, even if it means my toddler will mess things up the next minute. Luckily DH is also the same way!

I do 5-15 minutes every night. After LO is in bed, but before I sit down and relax. If I am consistent with it every day, it really only takes 5 minutes. If it's been a crazy week, I might need the full 15. I also pick up here and there throughout the day and we have a small living space.

30-60 minutes total, probably. But I'm a neat freak - messes do not persist in my house, and my daughter doesn't get to have a ton of different things out at once.

About 15 minutes before work, and then probably about 1-1.5 hours. And we don't have kids!

Probably 15 min total? 5 min in the morning, 5 min when I get home/after dinner, an other 5 min before bed?

I used to be a slob, but have learned our whole family does better with order! We have friends over and play dates often, so our house is pretty much always picked up. My husband and our nanny both do a great job keeping things orderly. We have cleaners come every other week and don't really clean otherwise. We had a really messy house growing up and I found it so embarrassing in high school. We kind of have an evening rule that we don't relax until our house is in order. My closet and our "to be filed" box is another story!

Usually about 5 minutes per nap & then DH spends about 1 minute throwing all her crap in a basket when she goes to bed. He calls it helping. I don't complain because it passable enough that I don't have to "fix" it if I'm too tired or don't feel like it.
I wipe the counters & sweep the floor eevery night after dinner

We've been good about the toys lately so maybe 10 minutes at the end of the day. The kitchen is pretty much always ok. My downfall is the clothes. We inevitably have them all over the place and I can't put them away during nap time because the bedrooms are occupied. Then they pile up and it becomes a bigger project. I'm working on it..:

from the moment i walk in the door until i go to bed i feel like i'm picking up and putting away, whether its myself, the dog, the baby or the husband's stuff.

Maybe 5-10 and it's not enough! It's hard because I feel like I can't do it when Liam is awake because he just ruins it immediately and after he's in bed, I'm so exhausted I just crash. Luckily the babysitter will pick up when he's napping, so at least it's clean-ish for part of the day.

As soon as LO goes to bed I pick up the mess she makes in the living room. She's at daycare all day but still manages to storm through like a tornado leaving toys everywhere when we get home. It takes less than 10 minutes to get everything put away...I cannot go to bed with her toys strewn about.
Other stuff I usually do as I go. We have a shoe rack for our shoes by the door, a coat rack for jackets/purses, I discard junk mail as soon as I bring the mail in (we used to not do this and it would accumulate all over our counter and drive me nuts).

Maybe 10 mins during the week. After she goes to bed.
Weekends, a lot more, DH and R leave messes everywhere!
