Our dining room table was literally falling apart so we upgraded today. It came with 4 chairs but has the option to fit 8. We can buy two extra and have it seat 6. I'm debating if we should just keep the 4, buy two more or buy four more so it seats 8. We don't have any other seating like a breakfast bar or anything.

We had been searching for a long time for a table that can accommodate two leaves. I wanted the option of everyone sitting at the dining table when my family came to visit.
Without the leaves it can seat 8-9. With both leaves it can probably seat 12-13!
We are a family of 4 but my ILs, BIL his GF come over for dinner almost weekly. So the standard 8 is convenient. Then it's nice to have the extra 4-5 seats for when my family is here.

6 comfortably, but we've squeezed 8 before. It came with 6 and we have 2 extra (non matching chairs) that we pull over when needed.

10 comfortably, with leaves. It's usual size fits 6, generously.

I would get 8- they might be harder to get later.
We recently bought a new house from an elderly couple who was downsizing. The one piece they had that we loved was the dining room table, which is the furniture we need. It has 8 seats, and with the leaves it goes to 12. I wish we had more; I have a large family.

8 with leaves. My sister was with me when I purchased it and insisted I buy the 7th and 8th chairs. It was good advice!

Our table seats 10 with both leaves extended. We bought all 10 chairs - didn't want to deal with non-matching chairs later on.

8 but we only have seating for 7 (we have 4 chairs and a bench that can fit 3 people comfortably).

Our dining table can fit 10...except we don't have any chairs for it, haha! If the chairs all match get all 8. If you need them down the road you'll have them.

Our dining room table seats 10 with the leaves in but we took them out at our new house so right now it just seats six.

If i was you, I'd get 8 chairs for when you have lots of people over.
Currently we live in a very small house, but in the next house we'd love both our kitchen and dining room table to fit 6 up to 10.

Our table seats 6 normally, 8 with one leaf, and 10 with another leaf (yep, we have two!!)
We only purchased 6 matching chairs, and now those chairs are not made anymore. I SO wish we had purchased 4 more! And they were B1G1 50% off back then, too...

The big fancy one that I had to have and put in the formal dining room with a chandelier that we NEVER use except for super special occasions? It can seat 8-10 with the leaf extensions (that I also had to have, not wanting to have to buy a bigger one later on in life). I have 8 chairs, but I don't leave the leaf extensions on it since it's so big, so I leave 6 at the table.
The breakfast table we have right off our kitchen seats 4 (I guess we could squeeze 6, but I only have 4 chairs), and we use ALL the time!

Our kitchen table seats 4-6. We have 4 chairs + a tripp trapp at the table.

14 when it's got all the leaves. I wanted a big one, so that when both our families come, everyone fits and no one has to eat dinner on their lap.

Our coffee table turns into a dining room table and we can squeeze 8 people around it.

8...then dh built this table topper to go on top which seats 12 comfortably, but we can squeeze in 14. It's so awesome that we can take it on and off as needed.
We also have DHs grandmother's foldable dining table that we can bring up when we are having more than 14 over. when we set that up with its table topper that he made we can seat up to 24 total. It's nice to have the option because my family is huge and local so they are always over for some sort of celebration.

8 with one leaf, that stays in all the time because we have no where to store it. We officially have 6 chairs, though, so we use others from the kitchen.

6 comfortably, but we've squeezed more in pre-baby when we had parties a lot. We've had a dinner party for 14-- we just took a smaller table and a desk and just stuck them at the end

Our current table seats 6. It's big enough to seat 8, but I don't like where the table legs hit the seat placements then. We're currently buying a new house, and I'm debating whether to add a smaller kitchen or bigger dining table.

Seats 8 but we only have 6 chairs. It's a rectangle with hidden leaves that pull out to make it square. LOVE this table.

We leave it set for 6. It has leaves that can fit 8, but we'd have to bring in folding chairs. It's the only dining space in our house and it's a rather long space, so we wanted a larger table.
