DS is 11 months old. Between his grandparents (three sets), aunts and uncles, he's going to make it big with presents on Christmas morning. Of course he won't know who gave him what and honestly doesn't really NEED or at this time WANT any gifts. How many gifts will you (and your partner) buy your baby?

We went buy budget rather than amount. We spent $200 on her (19 months old). It ended up being 5-6 presents.

He has so many toys so all I bought him was a good xylophone and a pea coat as well as his stocking. We spent less than $100

It's his first Christmas and his birthday follows soon after so a few small things but we are definitely going to keep it inexpensive. At this age, he doesn't even know what Christmas or his Birthday are so I would prefer to put the money into his college fund rather than blow it on something he won't even remember!

We're doing 4 gifts - want, need, wear, read. It would be super inexpensive if his highchair wasn't included as his 'need'.

We spent about $175 which ended up being 9+ gifts. Not sure the exact number though.

She was around 10 months old last Christmas. We bought her the Laugh & Learn Home, Laugh & Learn Learning Kitchen, & a few books.

We are getting him a sled and some things for his stocking. I know he will get spoiled by grandparents and extended family. Plus he doesn't know, I'd rather wait to go all out until he is a few years old.

He needs to go up a size in clothes so we bought more than we anticipated. Aside from clothes we bought 3 toys, an amber teething necklace, and some feeding supplies.
I am contemplating a personalized Night Before Christmas book, too.

We ended up getting her a few things...we're doing the four gifts like @grizz: and I still need to buy the 'Read'!

We set a budget of $100. That got R a Mozart Magic Cube, an A&A dream blanket, an Oxo Tot bib (which I might break out now) and a few books. I think I went a little over with all of the books.

We bought him 3 toys, a chair, a book, a stuffed animal, and some clothes.

Last year we got her 2 Disney animators collection dolls (which are still unopened!)
This year we got her a play kitchen and we will probably buy a few accessories for it.

LO has 3 sets of grandparents and is the only grandchild. She also has 10 sets of great-aunts/uncles who spoil her; so we buy her almost nothing haha. This year we're getting her the hugging Elmo doll and this kid-sized faux leather chair I saw at target.

C will be almost five months at Christmas. She already has so many people wanting to buy her things that I don't know if we will get her anything! I'd rather save things to tell people when they ask what she wants.
We might buy the jumperoo from craigslist for her, but even that my mom might give us the cash for. Lucky girl (and parents).

We only bought her one big gift - a Lego Duplo play house, but we decided to separate the pieces and put them into her Advent calendar. It's kind of cheating, but since she's only 17 months, we think it's a good idea to slowly introduce a few pieces at a time.
I've also bought a few small gifts for her stocking and for the rest of her Advent calendar: tiny stuffed animals, stickers, Aquadoodle.

@yoursilverlining: I so thought of her when I saw the Elmo commercial last night.
I think we'll do want, need, wear, read. We'll probably get multiple items in the "read" category, since books are cheap.

I'll buy about 3, but so will my husband...we are trying to think carefully about things that will add to what he has like books. I also got him a jellycat lovey.

LO will be one on Christmas. We have a budget of $10-20 for the exact reason you outlined. His birthday is Christmas Eve, and we're spending $25 for that.

We won't have to worry about this until next Christmas--LO will probably be about 10 months--and we won't buy her much. We'll probably save some shower gifts/toys that are more for older kids for her to open on Christmas and her birthday and give her an ornament (she won't really know what it is, but we hope to give her one every year) and a Christmas dress to wear to church on Christmas eve. Probably a budget of $20 max!

We bought her a small play kitchen for $75. The rest of her presents will come from her grandparents, aunts, and uncles. LO has a wish list made up of things she might possibly like and books. Our families spoil her a lot.

He got a doll house, cups, play kitchen, cupcakes for kitchen, oll and a cash register fro. Us. We went overboard but we got sine good deals plus I I couldn't resist! Christmas and his birthday are the only times.I buy him stuff (besides clothes)

Last year she was a week old and she got a book for Christmas and this year she will get a book and her cozy truck...which she has already been playing with
I want to make sure Christmas is about a lot more than just gifts, might as well start now. Plus, she's been spoiled since before she was born, there's not much we can buy that she doesn't already have

DS2 will be 7 weeks old by Christmas, and he doesn't need anything. I might take a few baby toys leftover from DS1 and wrap them up so that he has something under the tree.

None. She'll only be 10 weeks old, and she'll have no idea. Plus there will be lots of gifts from grandparents and aunts and uncles. Money is tight while I'm on maternity leave, so no need to add to it.

We wanted to do less, but had a hard time controlling ourselves. This is not going to bode well for us when she is old enough to remember. We got some great deals though - a fold out toddler couch from Toys R Us for $14 (used a gift card TRU gave me for buying toys in October for my nieces b-day presents), a little people farm set for $13 with the $10 off coupons and price-matching to Amazon's price, a mega bloks tub for $20, The Little Mermaid blu-ray for $15, and I also got her a few little stuffed animals for her stocking, a couple of books, and a few other odds and ends. I really wanted to get her a kitchen, but think we might hold off on it until her birthday. If we can remain strong.
I am hoping folks get her some baby dolls, a baby stroller, and a shopping cart. I refrained from buying these as these were affordable gifts people could give her.

I say I have a budget, but we really don't. I buy stuff all year round and give my son new things on a regular basis. I prefer not to give him stuff just on his birthday or Christmas, because we'd be overloaded in one month and I don't see the point in waiting if he really expresses interest in something.
Eta: at 12 months, we got him the anywhere chair.

H will be 8 months and we got her a Fisher-Price Ballapalooza (which I got in june on an awesome deal), some shoes, a few books and a superhero doll. More than I intended but I would of bought her all these thing on a normal day (except maybe the Fisher-Price Ballapalooza) so I have just put some stuff aside.

LO will be almost 3 months at Christmas. We aren't really planning on giving her a lot. I'm making some hairbows and we might get her some clothes. I know her grandparents and aunts will spoil her, so we are not doing a lot.

3. A new Wubanub, a rolling toy to help learn to crawl and a Jack in th Box. So like $50-75? I wouldnt have gotten him anything but DH and MIL act like I am awful for saying that haha

Just a stocking this year...although I plan to wrap some empty boxes because I know LL will have a blast playing with the wrapping paper and boxes!
He will get plenty from grandparents, so I am just keeping an eye on the dollar spot at Target and other cheap bargains for his stocking. I found some cute hand puppets and instruments for a couple dollars each!
