We're looking at possibly moving into a bigger place because I'm starting to feel a little cramped in our small townhome.
How big your current apartment/home? What would be your ideal home size (in square footage)?

3,001 sq. ft. too big for the two of us and our two small dogs... but we also have only two extra rooms (we, today, want 3 kids)... I think ideally we'd like to be in a 4,000-5,000 sq.ft. in our dream home 10-15 years from now.

Our starter home has 1200 sq feet, plus a basement that has an additional 700 sq feet. It works for now, but we plan on building once our kids are ready to start school and we plan on that to be significantly larger. We do not want a split level like we have now.

Our current home (condo) is about 1300 square feet and 3 bed/2bath + office on 2 floors. We're looking to build a new home which will be somewhere under 2k square feet for 3 beds/2.5 bath + office, plus a full basement (we only plan on having 1, maybe 2 kids). I think layout is as important as size - planned well, smaller homes can be more space friendly than some larger places. I shudder to think of the cost of heating a hugeeeeeee home, or cooling one in summer. As it is, we pay almost $300/month in cooler months just for heat and keep our place at 65. Yikes!

Our current home (condo) is 1100 square feet - it's an open floor plan, which helps, and we have an upstairs spare room (it's a 2 bedroom, plus the upstairs room, but the upstairs room doesn't have closets and it has sloped ceilings). The space itself has been great for me and DH but I know it'll start to feel small once LO (and all his baby crap) arrives! Also, we just have one full bath and I really wish we had an extra 1/2 bath.

Our home is 1500 sq ft w/ 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. The size is ok. Maybe a little bigger would be better like around 2000-2500 sq ft.

650 sq ft 1 bedroom 1 bath apartment for DH, the baby (once he arrives), and I. I'd love to live somewhere over 1000 sq ft--we are running out of space to put things!

About 800 square feet. My friends describe it as big, but that's New York living for you! Actually, I kind of like it since it forces us to be careful about purchases. If we go overboard there isn't any space, so it keeps us in check.

Our house is 1900 sq ft. It's an ok size for now for the 2 of us and even with one baby it would work. But eventually we'd like to move into a place that's closer to 2500 sq ft...with a basement!

Ours is about 2100 sq ft, 3 bd, 2.5 bath on 2 levels. It's designed with smallish bedrooms and more generous living spaces. I'd really appreciate having a 4th bedroom for when the kids are older and each have their own room. But that's my only complaint with the house (and it's so close to being paid off) that we won't move!

I'm not exactly sure, but it's between 12-1500 sq feet. My ideal home would be 2500 sq feet. I don't think I could handle anything larger.

Our apt is a one floor 2 bed/2 bath and it is 990 sq ft. I would like to buy a home that has 3 bed and 2.5 bath. I need a room or area for our office. Not really sure about the sq ft of our future home.

It's a little over 2,000 sq. ft. which is a little on the large size for just the two of us, but I think it should be perfect when we have 2 kids someday.

I think it's about 2400 sq. ft...It was a bit big for just the two of us, but now it seems just right.

Currently we're in a 900 sq. ft 1 bedroomapt, and in April we'll be moving to a 1200 sq ft 2 bedroom.

We're at about 2,100 square feet, which feels about right. But as I blogged today, we may need to downsize soon!

Our house is 2200 sq ft. It has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. One bedroom is completely empty. We moved from an 800 sq ft apartment a few months ago and are slowly acquiring enough furniture so this place doesn't feel so empty.

Our house is 1400 sq ft. I actually like that it's not huge, no need to have tons of space that we never use and have to clean. I wouldn't mind one extra room for a playroom though.

We live in a townhouse, it's about 1500 sq. ft plus about 350 sq feet of finished basement! It's enough space so far, we'll see when the baby comes though!

About 500 sq ft. 1bed/1bath apartment. That's city living! Hopefully something a little larger, with more closets, is in our future.

About 950 square feet, 3 bedroom apartment. It's considered pretty big by tokyo standards. We have a lot of stuff so it feels a bit cramped for us.

We have about 1700 sf (3 bed, 2 bath), but I would like to have an additional bedroom or a study, so ideally a 2500 sf house would be better.

Almost 6,000 sqft but I have a big family. My little brothers and parents live with us. Plus when my sister is in town she stays with us. We have family gatherings all time so our house is the perfect size.

Our condo is 1100 sqft, and it's fine for the two of us right now. We're looking to move, though, and are searching in the 1400-200 sqft range.

1900 sq ft, with us 2 and a baby, it's just right because we still have a guest bedroom. We don't plan on more, but if we change our minds, we will be moving and renting this one out.

700 sq ft one bedroom one bathroom apt. I am hoping that by the time we have our first baby, we will have either a 2 bedroom or a home:)

1425 sq ft plus ~700 in the unfinished basement. I think it's the perfect size, with 4 bedrooms. We will want to finish the basement in the next 5 years or so in order to have a playroom/rec room for when kids come along.
bananas / 9227 posts
2325 sq ft, 4 bedrooms 2.5 bath. It's too big for just the two of us, but we eventually want two kids. We have a dedicated guestroom - we live abroad and it's really convenient to always have that space for visitors.
Right now, with just the two of us, we only live upstairs. The craftroom is being slowly converted into a baby room, what's supposed to be the dining room area is a storage/empty boxes room, and the "study" isn't being used at all.
It doesn't make much sense now, but when the baby comes and our family gets larger, it'll fit =)

1600 sq feet on 2 floors, but the first floor is more of a completely finished basement. ideal size would be around 2500 sq feet. i've lived in houses that were bigger, and i think they were too big. i want to be all up on my kids haha.
i'd love a master bedroom, office, 2 bedrooms for the kids, and a family room that would double as a play room.

ours is a 1300 sq foot condo (2 bds, 2 bath). We have a dog and one baby and are quite cramped. We're house hunting now and will hopefully find a home around 3000 sq feet or 4 bedrooms.

7-800 1b/1b apartment. Debating on what we will do, our lease is up right before my due date but I think we will stay here for six months after. Not so worried about the amt of square feet because I feel like it's easier to just get rid of extra stuff than to pay for and maintain a bigger place (where we are in life) but I would like a 2b/1ba a little further from the city.

our apartment is about 1200sq ft. we went from like 2500 to like 1200 (with another apartment) and boy, was that a pain to cramp 4 bedrooms into 2. had to store stuff at my parents' and hubby's parents' houses. i think ideally, i'd like at least 1800sq ft. i thought 2500 was too big for just the 2 of us, but now that we have 2 babies coming, that sounds mighty nice right about now.
