I have two that I got when I was 16 and 19. I took three years between those because it took me that long before deciding on something I really wanted. Just recently (I am almost 34), I have been entertaining the idea of a third, but really don't know what I would get yet. I am thinking maybe I should wait until I am done having kids (I plan to have one more in a year or so) and then get something symbolic of motherhood.
ETA. To this day, I still love the tattoos I got and have zero regrets

I have none! DH has two. I've always wanted one, but never thought of a design or phrase that I would want FOREVER. I think I may finally get one once I'm done with child rearing years!

None- but I really want one! I am unsure about placement. In nursing school we can't have tattoos exposed at all, so that means several of the spots I had in mind are out.

I have one on my hip so you can't see it unless I am wearing a bathing suit and the second is on the back of my shoulder so it is only seen when I wear sleeveless shirts or some dresses etc.
If I get a third, I think I would do my ankle just so they are all evenly spaced across my body

I have 4 tattoos. I got my first on my 20th birthday and there have been a few years between each one. My most recent one is a bicycle on my right forearm. I got it last year to commemorate my DHs accident. I still love it and I proudly tell people my story when they ask about it

I have two, and a third planned that will reflect family/kids, but I have to earn in it by getting myself back in shape, I'm thinking I will do it for/around my 30th.

@californiadreams: lol well with my timeline I have a year and a half! DS is 3m, DD 22m and I had knee surgery last week, sooo I hope enough time. Lots of time to really settle on the idea too!

I have one and I totally regret it. It's on my stomach but didn't alter with pregnancy, I have the tattoo artist to thank for that - it was her main concern when she did it!

I have 12/13. I can't keep the count straight! I don't love them all but they all mean something to me. I'd like to have on removed permanently and there are 2 I'd like to have covered/redone (once was a tattoo I got with a friend, we haven't been friends for a couple of years).
I used to be very spontaneous, decide I wanted a tattoo and 20 minutes later be sitting for one. Not the smartest idea, but my favorite tattoo of them all happened this way!

@loveisstrange: that is something I would never do! but I love looking at people who do and deciphering everything! I actually think I got the idea for this thread because my hairdresser has a sleeve and I couldn't help but ask her what all her tattoos meant. It was really interesting.

@travelgirl1: I only recently started thinking about it since talking about tattoos with my coworkers. well, I was never against the idea of more once I thought of what I wanted and knew if I got one it would be on my ankle. I guess I assume people see the one on my shoulder since it is exposed all summer.

Have two very small ones. Always planned on at least one more, but as time goes by I'm not sure I will ever get around to it!
I have a line from a poem on my hip, and a tiny doodle on my foot (a friend gave me that one). I love both of them, and have no regrets.

I have one - a small circle on the palm of my left hand. I LOVE it!! When I was 17 I decided I would get it someday, and that day came when I was 24. It's so simple and brilliant. No regrets, ever!

I have 4. My zodiac sign on the back of my neck, and ouroborus between my shoulder blades, a fleur-de-lis with NOLA 8-29 written around (a commemorative Hurricane Katrina tattoo--my dad has a matching one on his arm), and "CELLAR DOOR" on my inner left wrist. The last one is the only one I really regret, although I might regret the ouroborus if I saw it on a regular basis.

I love them but I've never had an idea I loved enough to get. I hope to get a few at some point. My mom and I always talk about getting ones together, so that may materialize. And I think some day I'd like to get something for LO.

I have three, but I am ready for another one as soon as I am through with nursing. My last tattoo pretty much covers my full forearm and it was my "I'm never getting a corporate job again" tattoo.
@Beebug: If you don't mind my asking, do you know what you plan to do to represent your family? LO's name doesn't really lend itself to any type of visual representation, but I want to do something to do with him for my next tattoo, but I have no idea how to do it!

Zero, and I often feel in the minority about this! No symbol I could imagine wanting on my body for my whole life. I also don't think they are very attractive on older people, and we'll all get there someday!

@sapphire: That used to be part of my reasoning (outside of not yet having found something I liked enough to have permanently inked on my body), but I finally figured I am not going to be very attractive when I get older anyway!

One big one on my ribs, about 5"x10" it's based on a painting of my grandmas. I got it done in one sitting while on vacation in SFO in 2008. No regrets. Hopefully I don't get stretch marks over it.
I had an appointment to get a line of music the describes my love for M perfectly on my arm from my elbow to my wrist. But my friends mom that I was going with got in an accident that day (she's ok), we canceled and never rescheduled. I want to still get it after I have the baby. Ultimately it's ok that it was put off, now @vegmama is going to hand letter it for me, I love her handwriting and now can always carry her with me, so it will have double meaning.
