We've been invited to 3 daycare birthday parties this month, and I always struggle with what to bring as a gift. I was thinking board games, is that acceptable? they are all turning 4 or 5.

Sounds great! At that age for not my kid like 15-20 dollar gifts should still be sufficient.

For daycare friends probably $10-15. Always with a gift receipt!

I usually spend around $20 on birthday gifts. My son isn't in daycare, but we get invited to birthday parties from kids in our play group

I usually spend $25-30. Looks like I can scale that back. We've only had family/close friend parties for DD1 so they've given more $$ gifts. Haven't been on the receiving end of preschool parties yet to know what's typical.
