8-10, we've only used a sitter once and it was our in home daycare lady's daughter. LO slept the whole time, but since she gave up her Saturday night we gave her a nice payment. Our daycare lady said it was way too much, I had no idea I had never done it before!

I pay $10/hr if they can drive to me, and I'd pay more like $7-ish if I had to pick up/drop off the sitter.
I have 1 child and he's generally up when sitters get there.

We have only used a sitter a few times and it was our primary caregiver's (in-home daycare) daughter. She is a freshman in college and we paid her $10/hour while LO was sleeping.

$10-$15/ hr. To be honest, we've only hired a sitter once and she was a high school senior. We paid $10 an hour.

I think around $10/hr but I've still yet to hire a sitter. I used to nanny (not full time) before I got pregnant with DS and that's what I was quoted as being the norm at both jobs.

Wow people making bank these days! Back in like 2000 when I babysat in HS, I was getting $10 though so I guess it make sense.

$10-$15 but that's each child. Because their rates are "low" they refuse to give deals on 2+. That's been my experience at least.

That's about average where we lived in Northern Virginia. Here where we live in Asia it's less than $10/hr. It's insanely cheap! And they will help you clean up around the house and make some meals without paying them additional unless you want to.

@CupQuakeWalk: EACH CHILD?!? Insane. I used to make $3/hr for three children total!

@NurseMommy: I was just going to say the same thing. I used to babysit two kids every Monday and Thursday evening. I had to make them dinner, they were diabetic/celiac so I had to make sure they ate properly and tested/injected their insulin, put them to bed, which they never did easily and then the parents expected light housekeeping after they went down... for $3.00/hour in like 2002.

Our regular sitter gets paid $12-13/hr, with a little more if she needs to pick LO up from daycare. When she started, she said her range was $10-15. I paid her $10/hr the first few times but then raised it. She often picks DD up around 5 (at daycare around the corner) and watches her until 7:30 - for that I pay her $30. She is in her early 30s and has lots of experience. However, there are times when she will leave work (she has a day job) a little early to pick up my LO if daycare closes early due to weather... I will usually give her a $30-50 bonus or something for that.
There are lots of sitters in my area that charge $15-20, but that's not really in my budget and I have found plenty of good, experienced sitters in the $10-15 range.
I babysat until my early 30s (a few years ago) and charged ~$12 (for twins, 2 toddlers, or 3 older kids). I had almost 20 years of experience, a masters degree, and was a doctoral student in pediatric psychology... so I guess I feel like if $12 was good enough for me, it's still ok for 1, fairly easy toddler??

@Sapphiresun: whoa! That's a lot of work! And 2002? Crazy! At least I'm talking about 1997.
Makes me feel old

@Sapphiresun: I think you got robbed! In 2002, I think I was making $7! I remember thinking that was a lot! When I started babysitting in 1990, I got paid $2/hr. I had one family that paid me $3 an hour and I remember thinking that was big money!!!

There's a girl at our church that babysits for us, we usually give her $20 each time she comes over to babysit, if it's going to be really late we give her $30.
