We're mostly done with our registry, but I'm not sure if we should register for much or even any clothing. Help?

Zero clothing (except white onesies in each size). People will buy it regardless and we are getting lots of hand-me-downs.

@highwire: This exactly. White onesies were the ONLY clothing item we put on the registry. People are going to buy tons of clothes anyway so we didn't want to add more. And if we don't get enough, clothes are something I enjoy picking out and buying for the baby (way more exciting than lots of other registry items like milk storage bottles and a changing pad!)

Just a couple items, a few onesies and pants. We got TONS of clothing, including the couple clothing pieces I registered for and a TON I didn't register for.

Like some other posters, we registered for white onesies only, and I wish we hadn't put those on. I'd much rather put her in a patterned onesie than a white one, and she doesn't need multiple layers since she's a summer baby. We still got plenty of cute outfits from everyone.

zero! people buy it for you anyway! we were team green the first time, announced the gender (a girl) the second time and we got tons of clothes both ways!

I didn't register for any clothes because I knew that everyone would want to buy cute girl clothes for her, and I was right! At 6 months old, I've only had to buy a few outfits for her.

We didn't register for any clothing at all and got a TON in every size, from NB to toddler and even beyond.

Just like everyone else said... don't bother-- maybe register for the essentials, like onesies and side-snap shirts... but people will get you clothes regardless.

I'm not registering for any toys or clothes. I'm hoping to encourage a spirit of practicality with the gift purchasing!

Zero. And we got a ton, I haven't had to buy anything.

None! And I got plenty yesterday! So I recommend none besides onsies!

none! we didn't get that many clothes though, but my mom bought charlie's entire wardrobe anyway.

Didn't register for any clothes and got tonnnnnnnnnns. And we have a boy. I've heard if you have a girl you get even more clothes.

None!! I registered for some basic onesie sets but didn't even get them. I still got some cute clothes.

I registered for the white onsies and maybe another outfit or two basically so people could see what style I like. Otherwise, I registered for a few things that were our favorite sports teams related.

If you're particular, put it on your registry. It will save you a lot of time trying to return stuff later, if you decide to go that route.

I registered for some plain onesies only because I want to be able to pick out her clothes and to take advantage of the cute stuff Gilt.com has! However, people bought her clothes anyway and unfortunately I returned about 90% of them because I just didn't like them!

I put like 2 items on there that were very gender neutral colors hoping people would get the hint. But yea....we still got a TON of pink clothes. We have so much clothes she won't wear half of them. While I appreciate it I would have much rather gotten other items!

None, except for sleep sacks. I like to pick my own clothes for our baby and am expecting a lot of clothes I won't like for our boy. I'm picky!!

Not planning on any. I know I will get enough already. I just hope I like the ones we do get. So picky!!!

None. People absolutely love gifting clothes and will keep your LO clothed until they're 5. Seriously!
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
None! And most of what we got was clothes--I prefer it that way. You get lots of cute stuff from all over the place--and lots of regional stuff not available here.

Thanks for reviving the thread ladies!
Our first shower was this past weekend, and we have so much clothing now! Most of it's from people who weren't even at the shower. We have one more shower, this Sunday, so it's going to be interesting.

Almost nothing b/c I like to see clothes in person so would rather go get it myself. I might have registered for those Gerber side snaps as those were a necessity the first month or so.

the gerber long-sleeved side-snap onesies (I've seen them at target, adorable colors and patterns!) are the best. thing. ever.
the foldover mittens are fantastic for cold nights and sharp nails, and my LO is NOT a fan of having things pulled over her head. though in the past week she's become tolerant of it. but seriously - easiest changes ever!!
