There are tons of studies out there that basically say that the more kids are talked to, the better they do academically. Currently programs are trying to get lower-income/less-educated parents to talk more because there is a direct correlation with education level and the amount of words spoken to children in a day.

The other posts about parenting today play on my ever-present mom guilt. And one of the biggest things I worry about is that I'm not talking to LO enough. I naturally like quiet when I'm home (maybe because I talk all day and hear tons of noise as a teacher), so sometimes I feel like I should say more, but I just don't feel like it.

I think my mom and sister talk to lo's much more.
