So I'm pretty stingy about turning on the heater because I believe that we should simply just wear more clothing to combat the cold indoors. It can get to be 52 degrees inside! But, apparently, having a baby in the house is different! =P We also have a terrible heating system - radiating heat from the ceiling - it totally sucks! Yesterday, we put the thermostat for 70 degrees in our bedroom and it only ever got up to 59 degrees the entire night!!! I'm just wondering how much extra everyone else pays so I can begin to open up my wallet just a little at least! My baby never seems to complain about being cold either, even though we adults are freezing our butts off!!

I'm in Texas, so we don't pay very much for our heating.. usually our gas bill is 12$, and in the winter it goes up to a whopping 24$. We usually have it set to anywhere between 62-67, but the last couple of days I've just shut it off and worn sweaters..

We just moved to a new house with propane heat, so I am not sure what our heating costs will be; but in our old condo we had natural gas heat and between the months of Nov-March the gas bill was always around $200-$300/month for heat. In the summer, the gas bill was about $20/month. We never put the thermostat higher than 68, and usually kept it at 64 during the day.
Can you put draft stops around windows and doors? They actually make a lot of difference!

We live in a corner apartment and our apartment always stays really warm. We only turn the heat on at night and it's set to 70-72. We pay about $30-$50 a month... It's a huge perk of living in an apartment!

we pay a lot because we use the electric heaters in charlie and olive's room. it keeps the rooms warmer than the gas heater -- their rooms are the coldest.
i'm not sure how much we pay because we spend even more in the summer to pay for ac!
50's is super cold! any time it dips below 70 i'm cold. we set the thermostat to 72.

@yoursilverlining: We rely on electricity for all our heating, so we will see how much additional we will have to pay. Another disadvantage is that we live in a condo with sliding glass doors in our bedroom and our living room, and we don't even go outside!! What a shame! We'll see what methods we can use to keep the heat in!

Our entire house runs on electricity and we're paying about $150ish each month. We keep ours at 72.

We're new to our house, so I don't know how much more we will pay, but we set the thermostat to 60 at night and 62 during the day... so it doesn't kick on too much.

We usually pay $55-$65 in the winter, and keep our thermostat at 69-70 during the day and 67 at night. I need to get better about putting on sweaters and using blankets. DH would let me keep it low as possible if he had his way!
Like @Mrs. Bee - it's gets hot here in the summer so we use AC a lot, so our bill isn't much different in the winter. Those spring months are usually lower though!

In the summer, even if we wanted to use AC, we can't because we don't have AC! Besides, it doesn't get super hot here in the Bay Area anyhow. =P But, a different problem we have in the summer are mosquitos that tend to sneak in through the doors and windows that we open! *Sigh* There's no winning here! Hahaha.

I have all electric and a 1300 sq ft twin (attached on one wall to our neighbor, which helps conserve). Typically my bill increases $80-$100/month in the winter if the heat is running all the time. I keep the thermostat at 68.

Our gas and electric bills are combined. We are on a budget billing system and the monthly payment has been anywhere from $136 (current) to $186. We keep our house at 62 overnight and during the weekday when we are at work and 68 when we are home.

If we have a really really super cold month, it'll go up to $300. But that has been rare. Usually winter is in the $200 range. During the summer it is nonexistent because our AC runs on electric. We set the house at 68 in the winter. . However, we have 2,000 square feet so there's a bit of space to deal with. We also have dual pane insulated windows so that helps a lot.

We set our thermostat on 68, sometimes 69 when we're home and sitting around. It's at 67 now at night. We never turn it above 70.

Oh my lord! I couldn't imagine the house only being 59!!! It's been only 10-15 degrees here outside lately, so I like being a little warm at home! We set ours to 67 all day. Our last gas/elec bill was $193 normally it was 115-120 so not too much of a jump. We own a house

We have an electric heat pump and our heat runs about $150/mo in the winter (set to 70!) Our AC is more expensive in the summer - up to $250. But it's our only utility bill besides sewage/trash so I don't mind. We used to live in an old drafty (smaller) house with an oil furnace and that was insane.

I was so happy when we moved, our old place had TERRIBLE, and even with the heat kept at 65, I was paying up to $300 a month during the winter for our gas heat (no gas stove or gas dryer, that was just for gas for heat & the hot water heater). Our place was only 1,300sq ft!! Now our place is a bit smaller, but we're on the top floor and have all new windows, so it's more like $75-100.

Our apartment is terribly insulated so winters suck for us. It averages 50-55 degrees inside when we wake up in the morning. This morning was 45! We have plastic on the bedroom window and just got a heat blanket so the bedroom is a little more tolerate. I just can't justify spending $250+ on heat a month.

We kept the house at 63-65, and it was about 3k for the season, so about 550/month for oil to heat about 2000sf, which didn't include the upstairs that we kept at about 60 since we only went up there to sleep. It's going to SUCK having to have the whole house warmer for kids.
