If you really want to go to a concert what is your max spend for a ticket? I just looked up tickets for a concert I'd like to go too and it's $225/person. That was too rich for my blood for a couple hours of fun. What about you?

It depends on who it is and where it is.
DH and I tend to go to smaller venues, and we'd pay $50-80 for that depending on who it is.
For larger arena type shows...probably $150 max for someone I REALLY want to see.

Honestly? Probably $25 before venue tax, etc., which basically means we don't ever go see anyone! But I'm super cheap and still getting used to not working.
But I would pay up to $400 (total) if I could get ahold of some Joanna Newsom tickets. My husband would DIE of joy if I could.

<$100, preferably around $50-60 ticket. $100 would mean it was a dream show. I basically don't go to arena type shows, they aren't by jam, so I can usually find good prices for the artists I love.

Probably about $150-200. I might spend more if I was going with a friend and not my husband since I'd likely be paying for 1 ticket rather than 2.

Less than $100 pp. We only go to a concert every couple of years, and usually its to artists who we may never get to see again, like Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Dylan, Don McLean, Three Dog Night, etc.

I paid $185 for Justin Timberlake (my favorite) and we paid $150 for George Strait's final tour, but they are two of my favorite. This is a show with Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, and Sam Hunt...and I just don't think it's worth it for that price! For two tickets almost 500 bucks, I don't think so!

@Oxana: I think I have similar reasoning for paying more.
I usually pay more for stuff I take my mom to that we might not get to see again. This year we saw Bette Midler. The best ever was Carole King and James Taylor a few years ago (I wish I'd spent more on that to get better seats, it was AMAZING)
DH's taste in music usually has us going to tiny general admission places. Those are usually cheaper.

Probably $500 for someone I really wanted to see. But I'm a big concert-goer. I also buy tickets for my parents regularly (for holidays and birthdays), and spend around $150-200/ticket for most of the events I end up sending them to. That's after taxes and everything, though. It's like $50 in just convenience fees on ticketmaster. So ridiculous!

Depends on the person and opportunity to see the show.
We paid $150 pp for Bob Dylan tickets a few years ago, and over/around $100 for several other artists. I didn't buy the tickets, but an ex got tickets for us to see the Rolling Stones and those were over $250 per ticket - 10 years ago. I'd pay $250 to see very, very, very few artists!
Anything over $100 I really have to love them.

$250 pp for someone really amazing that we'd probably never see again. But we also don't go to concerts more than once or twice a year before kids, and now only every couple years.

I would pay $1000 to go see Queen. Maybe even more. Sadly, that will never happen. Otherwise, I am so cheap. Maybe $100 if it were super special.
I do really want to see Elton John though. LIKE REALLY BAD.
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
@.twist.: my parents saw him this year, said hands down best concert they've ever been too! I was so jealous.
pineapple / 12802 posts
@LuLu Mom: He's been in our city a few times, but I never pay attention to concert appearances so I've missed him every time.

We usually see indie bands and avoid arena shows, so I usually won't go over $40-50 a ticket. @tofuwad: Tix to the Joanna Newsom show I went to were only $35!
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
I usually pay about 50.00 (but I live rurally and we don't get a lot of "big names" around here. Recently saw Ani Difranco for about that much, for example.)
I was given Springsteen tickets, I think they were about 125 each. I would absolutely pay 225/ ticket to see him again. But he's the only artist I'd pay that much to see.

It depends. I'd say no limit for a once in lifetime show like Leonard Cohen. It really depends.
honeydew / 7230 posts
@.twist.: He's amazing in concert! When we saw him 2.5 years ago he played for almost 3 hrs straight. No opening act we had to sit through or anything.
We rarely go to concerts, but I did pay $200/ticket for good seats for Elton John because it was a bucket list experience. Other than that, I probably wouldn't pay more than $100 per ticket? But there are very few artists that I'd bother going to a concert at all for. Too many of favorite artists/bands are too old or dead...

I spent $150 on Prince tickets - it was worth it! Soooo awesome!
Although I think he was known as the artist formally known as Prince at that time

@twodoghouse: That is seriously my problem too. Old or dead sum up my music collection. LOL

It really depends on how badly we want to go. But I think anything over $100 would be difficult to pay, and definitely nothing over $150
grapefruit / 4355 posts
$100 is normally my limit. Although I made an exception to go see Garth Brooks when he was playing in an intimate venue in Vegas.
grapefruit / 4400 posts
$125ish would be my limit for pit tickets or front row. If I had regular seats, I would do $70ish. I guess I would pay more for a festival, but so many of them are doing mandatory multiday passes that I can't do anymore!
persimmon / 1101 posts
For something amazing, $100. But...no one calls in for tickets on the radio anymore and my husband wins them ALL the time, so we usually pay nothing!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
DH and I paid $100/person for a concert we went to this summer as an anniversary trip. That's the most I've ever spent! It was worth it - it was an incredible concert, and we had a great anniversary.
I wouldn't spend more than that, most likely. I typically don't really go to concerts either.
honeydew / 7504 posts
We typically spend about $50-70 on concerts, but we usually go to small venues for indie bands. On the rare occasions that we go to big arena shows, we still try to keep it less than $100/ticket. That usually means we're way up in the nosebleeds, but whatever - that's why someone invented binoculars!
I've paid about $150/ticket for a handful of shows - Queen (Paul Rodgers took lead singer role, and while he's no Freddie Mercury, it was pretty awesome), Elton John (honestly, one of the worse concerts I've ever been to!), and maybe U2?
nectarine / 2028 posts
We paid $250 a ticket for Sir Paul, but we were about 25 rows back from the stage and seeing him was a huge deal for me. Huge. I would only ever pay that much again to see my "other" Paul (Paul Simon). I'm not a huge concert person, so I'm more in the $50-$80 range for anything that isn't on my A list.
pineapple / 12566 posts
@.twist.: I totally want to see Elton too! I missed him the last time he was in town.
I'm not a huge concert goer, so maybe around 100 max, if it was someone I really wanted to see.
honeydew / 7504 posts
@ChiCalGoBee: Paul Simon was absolutely incredible in concert. I hope you get the chance to catch him sometime. Easily one of my Top 5 concerts ever!
pear / 1750 posts
Sigh, I used to go to concerts all the time. I've seen the Smashing Pumpkins several times so I probably wouldn't pay to see them again. If Jack White came to town I'd consider paying up to $80 per ticket to take DH. Probably won't happen though. I hate arena shows because you can't hear or see anything unless you have great seats. I prefer theater shows to outdoor venues cause I'm old and I want a chair
