LO is 14 months old and I don't think I could send her to daycare right now even if I wanted to. I'd miss her too much :T We're thinking about having her start a part time day program when she's 2!

ok I have to stop commenting on threads and not answering the original question I was home for 18 months with Wagon Jr. but with Lil Miss Wagon, I plan on going back to work 6-8 weeks after she's born. But I will only be 3 days a week in the beginning.

I get 12 weeks. And I am taking every.single.minute.of.it!

I also would hate to leave my LO. I'm very lucky because I don't have to. We'll probably have her start preschool when she's 3, or earlier depending on when we have another baby.

I took ten weeks with my first and plan to take ten weeks with this one as well. I wish I could stay home longer! I'd love to do six months. It seems like as soon as they start getting fun you have to go back in the US.

As of right now, my maternity leave is indefinite if we can swing it financially!

6 weeks is all I get so I only took 6 weeks. I wish I could take more!

At the very least, 3 months. But I hope to go on maternity leave indefinitely, like @shimmer

I'm planning on 4 months, though I requested 6 months. Only 2 months is paid though. I can't believe almost a month of it has gone by : (

I took 4 months with LO and I want to take 6-8 months with any future LOs!

12 weeks. I originally was planning to take off 8 weeks but I had a c-section so that set me back. In a perfect world I would have liked to stay home for 6 months and then work part time til her 1st birthday but unfortunately I go back to work after 12 weeks.

I'll never understand business that make people come back after only 6 weeks. Aren't you, like, barely healed??

I'll be taking 12 weeks plus any vacation time I have left so probably more like 13 or 14 weeks.
pomegranate / 3438 posts
I am taking 15 weeks, of which 12 is paid. I also took a week off before he was born. I wish I could take more but we need two incomes

I'm going to take a year. I'm so looking forward to it. We waited to TTC until I was eligible.

My mat leave is a year but I have an additional 6 weeks since I'm a teacher and the school year begins in September (mat leave ends at the end of July).

@highwire: yeah it's awful. Not only do you not feel quite right down there, but you're still tired. When I hit six weeks I was so glad I wasn't a working mom - I couldn't have imagined going back to work, let alone having someone else take my LO FT!!
Since I'm a PT nanny who can bring my son to work - it wasn't as bad of a transition for me. I just had to get the whole mom thing down, and then I went back, I think it was around 10 weeks.

I can take up to 12 weeks (give or take with vacation, 6-8 weeks paid) but I'm going to quit and take at least a year. Realistically, I'll probably stay home at least until the youngest (of my hypothetical children) is ready for pre-school. It's part of the reason we are waiting a little longer to start, since now we can live on H's income alone and a few years ago it wouldn't have been possible.

I took the full 12 weeks of FMLA leave, and then an additional 30 days "personal leave" that my company allows. I received short term disability for 6 weeks, but the rest was unpaid. We didn't have any choice in my returning to work.

I went back at 7 weeks part time and full time at 9 weeks. DS is home with DH (who can work from home without taking any sort of pay cut) and I can visit them during my lunch break. If he were going to daycare/babysitter I don't know if I could do it that early.

I'll be a SAHM after my maternity leave. If I was going back I'd have 12 weeks.

As of now my plan is to take 4 months and evaluate the financials from there. If it's feasible, I'll take off more time.
pomelo / 5720 posts
12 weeks through FMLA but only 6 weeks is partially paid through short term disability. I may end up taking an extra week or two unpaid depending on how I feel and then I'm only coming back to work half time.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
Work only provides 6 weeks pay plus whatever PTO time I take, then I'll take the 6 weeks FMLA provides (unpaid) when the time comes. I'd love to take off longer, but we'll deal with that when we come to it.

I took 14 weeks of maternity leave, but I work part-time only. I'm also putting my DS into daycare/preschool when he's 2. It's gonna be tough for me to drop him off at school.

I'm taking the max of 12 weeks I'm eligible for under FMLA. I don't have enough PTO to cover all of it, but we saved up to cover the difference since it's important to both of us that I am able to take that time to adjust to our new addition and not feel as rushed back to work. Hopefully it won't be too terrible when I do have to go back!

15 weeks (6 disability, 6 CA Paid Family Leave, 3 PTO)-- I'm only taking off time when I can get paid.
Good news is, I'll be working from home and my mom will come by to watch the baby... so I'll still be "at home" with the baby when I go back to work (minus the 3-4x/month I'll need to go into the office).
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
If I'm a working mom, I'll take the 4 months I'll be entitled by the state of TN, whether it's paid or not. If I can get more, great! But I am hoping to be a SAHM/WAHM... which is why we are waiting to TTC, like others have said.

I'll be SAHM mom when my son is born but after a full year i'll start my PH.D program....but that will only be like 2h of class a day so hopefully baby will stay with daddy.
I think it's hard for moms at any age...whether you're sending your 5 year old to school or your 3 month old to daycare. I am already dreading it.

I took 2 weeks before baby was born and 11 weeks after. I went To work part time afterwards though for 2-3 days a week. I still have 1 more week I can use for baby bonding time and get paid through SDI.
