I currently work from home, 15 hours a week. I'm trying to figure out how much time I should tell my boss I will need off (unpaid) after the baby is born.. I know I won't need need as much leave as someone who would have to go back to the office full time at the end of their leave, but how long would you recommend?

I'm a sahm so I don't have a clear answer for you.... but I'm not sure there is one. I know with my lo I couldn't have gotten any work done with her as a newborn. She had reflux so she was a pretty difficult baby and wouldn't let me put her down for a second. Naps, meals, you name it, everything was done with a baby in my arms. But I just went to visit a friend whose one week old was happily asleep in her bassinet. You just never know.

I am still hoping to get 12 weeks off even though I WAH. I don't think I need any less time off than anyone else. I work full time so I know I can't juggle a newborn plus toddler right away with my hours.

I think it depends on the baby. With my first LO, there was no WAY I was functional before she was about 6 weeks old (and I don't mean just having a schedule where I showered, I mean using my brain for more than reality TV). But with my second one I could start thinking around four weeks. I would say more than two weeks, but hopefully less than four?

I agree with above, I needed at least 6 weeks to feel human again! I took the full 12 weeks though before taking on any work responsibilities.
Working from home is hard with a baby- I only get a few spotty hours during the day when he is napping. Most of my work from home time is after he goes to bed or on the weekend when my husband is home. It isn't as easy as I thought it would be! I always feel behind on house chores, and feel like I should be spending time with my husband too, so I feel torn in all directions.

I worked from home after the birth. My son was terrible and wouldn't let me put him down. So often I worked in the evening when my husband could hold him. 15 hours a week could be do able if you have some support like that.

Do you get any leave paid? I'd do at least 12 weeks, I needed at least 6 weeks to be able to sit properly for longer stretches.
