I work from home answering technical support calls as a contractor for a small company. I'm 9 weeks pregnant and I'm trying to decide how much time I'll need off before I tell my employer.
The company is so small that they don't have to abide by FMLA. There is no maternity leave in our benefits package. In fact, I'm the only female employee.
My employer is very understanding though, and he has given me lots if flexibility including flex time to take my husband to physical therapy appointments twice a week. The fact that I work from home is an accommodation due to DH's disability.
My due date happens to fall right at the beginning of a month-long busy season, so I know my boss will need a temp to cover for me. Since this is my first child, I have no idea how much time I realistically need to take off after the birth before I can turn on my phone and take calls. 4 weeks? Less? I'd appreciate any input from experienced Moms.
