How long is she there, I assume a full work day so 8-10 hours? Usually at that age, my daughter would eat about 4 times at daycare (every 2 hours or so not including nap time). We only sent 4 ounce bottles, so 16 ounces total.

If you are nursing at lunch, then I would think that maybe 10-12 ounces would be right.

5 oz a feeding sounds good to me. My mom watches A, but I leave 3 - 5 oz bottles. I nurse him in the AM, she feeds him at 10, 1, 4 (roughly), and then we nurse before bedtime. Sometimes we'll have a lil left over from my diff pumping outputs that we'll give him in between the last bottle and night nursing session.

I would make sure they are properly bottlefeeding her (paced feeding to mimic letdown patterns and let baby sense they're hungry before they guzzle it down), and burping enough. I know LO always acts hungry after a full feed but once he burps, he's fine. And also that they are not forcing milk on her every time she cries, like you said. Otherwise you can try sending more, smaller bottles and see if that helps? I wouldn't do more than 5 oz in one sitting for an EBF baby (based on my limited knowledge). Milk intake over a 24-hour period doesn't really rise past 1 month, you would just give more at a feeding if the number of feedings per day decrease.

At that age I think it would be good to have her on a schedule - eat every 3 hours or so. If she is getting 5 or 6 ounces at every feeding, that is probably good. Maybe leave a "snack" bottle in case they think she's hungry at some point but not ready for a full bottle? 2 or 3oz in that one.

It took us a while to figure out the magic number. I have found that it makes people nervous that they don't have any 'extra' milk to give the baby whereas if they had a can of formula they could just mix up a bottle.

at 4.5 mo old we were sending (4) four ounce bottles. If you are feeding at lunch I would say that 10-12oz is a good range. Like @mediagirl said, a snack bottle may be helpful in making your caregivers feel 'safe' If your LO doesn't drink the snack bottle you can just mix it into a larger bottle the next day!
