My son is almost 18 months and he loves to play with us and jump around but he is much more stingy now with kisses and snuggles. He will snuggle or kiss now and then but says NO and turns away or pushes us away more. He snuggles when I nurse him but that doesn't count. It makes me a bit sad. I guess what I'm wondering is if this is a stage toddlers go through where they assert their independce or is this the beginning of fewer snuggles in general? Is there a way to encourage more snuggling without smothering your child? What are your toddlers like in this area lately?

More than we used to! She's never been much of a cuddler but she'll do it more now when she's tired.

Not much. DH gets more than I do. She's has never been much of a cuddler unless she was nursing. The cuddles have been few and far between since she weaned.

My LO was like that at that age, but give it time. By 2.5 he loved snuggling!

I think we are getting to more cuddling at age 2. LO has always loved to crawl all over me but not just cuddle. She will usually sit in your lap to read books though. But the other day after nap she asked me to snuggle for the first time. So maybe it will turn around for you too!

Not a lot. Usually when he's sick. Although the past week he has gotten into lap-sitting to be read to (pretty new for us!), and he sometimes likes to be kissed (he'll push his face against my lips). Mostly he just likes being chased around, tossed around, and otherwise rough-housed with

Lo went through a non snuggly phase, but now that her baby sister is here she loves to cuddle up on me. It's a jealousy thing, but ill take it

DD loves to snuggle and give kisses. But maybe it has something to do with the fact that would smoother her a ton as a baby. Now she even uses it to try to get out of time outs.

Until DS was about 18 months, he wasn't very snuggley at all. He actually has liked to cuddle more and more as he has gotten older.

My daughter was never very snuggly, even as a baby. As a toddler, she is affectionate, but it's fleeting. She'll come in for a quick hug, and then head right back off to do her toddler things. She gets cranky if I want to hug for more than a second. The only time she is legitimately snuggly is when we're around new people. Then her stranger anxiety kicks in, and all she wants to do is snuggle.
