I think a tip equal to one cleaning is appropriate. So in your case that looks like $120?

Yikes, I'm behind! We pay $80 every other week, and for the holidays, I usually just tip her $20. Oops.

eek. I'm with @winniebee I was thinking a $20 gift card..

I think the rule for tipping should be whatever you're comfortable giving, regardless of the etiquette rules. I think the important thing is to give something if you've been happy with the service.

I agree with Andrea that it should be whatever you are comfortable tipping. That being said, we give 1 week's pay to our cleaning lady along with a small gift.

@winniebee & @chopsuey119 - we give our mailman $20, so i think that is probably too low for a cleaning lady because a cleaning lady does so much more for us. i guess $120 is it for us.

@Tequiero21 but you don't pay your mailman.. your cleaning lady gets paid! HA. i sound like such a cheapa$$. I would give her $50! It's a healthy compromise.

And I guess I will be giving a little more this year! I do appreciate their work and thought I was being generous before!

i do think for us, an even $100 sounds good.
@winniebee - how about $40? that's pretty much a "week's" worth.

I agree with the $100 to $120 range.
Can I hijack and ask what you guys think about a holiday tip for your hairstylist who works at a salon that does not allow regular tipping? i.e. I get maybe 6 haircuts a year @ $60 each...and am not allowed to tip on them. Stylists there ARE allowed to accept holiday gifts. What would be appropriate? $100 or is that too low or high? I absolutely adore my stylist and want to thank her for doing such a good job.

@charlotte - wow, i've never heard of a salon that wouldn't let you tip your stylist. the stylist must get paid well! i think if i were you, i'd go anywhere from $60-100.

@hola abejita - i'd say $20, although i've never had a doorman before.

@hola abejita - I've only lived in a place with doormen for one year and I gave them $50 each. They did the door, helped with packages, called up for food deliveries (which in NYC is almost every day right?! lol), etc. so we had a lot of interaction throughout the year.
@charlotte - I would go off the cleaning lady etiquette and tip the price of one hair cut?

thanks everyone! Its kind of like a full-service salon/dayspa and they might have different people shampoo you / blowdry, etc so the no-tipping policy is to keep you from getting stressed about who to tip and how much {or so I've been told}. I am assuming they all make pretty good salaries instead. {I hope at least!}

Re tipping doormen, other building staff, etc - this is what my husband and I do. We live in a high-rise rental building in Midtown Manhattan. Our tipping is average for the building. Many tip more, but i'm not sure about less. Tipping is expensive in nyc - especially when you live in a building with a lot of people who maintain it:
Doormen: $100 each (we have 6 different doormen)
Porters: $50 each
Maintenance Guy: $50
Super: $150-$200 (unless he has gone above and beyond for us during the year).
Garage attendant: $50
Total holiday tipping for us in the building will run about $1,200. Freaking expensive!!!

@eupenmalmody - WHAT!? that's crazy! it's expensive as it is to live in the city!

Oh yeah, I forgot. We were only living there for half the year so I guess $100 is right for the whole year. Much cheaper not to live in high rise!

We just started with a cleaning woman a few months ago and I totally didn't think about a holiday gift -- another thing for the list!!
