DD 2 is 4 weeks old and I aim for every other day. But depending on her fussing it might be 3-4 days. She's not mobile and not in daycare yet so I'm not concerned. I do give her a wipe down daily and apply aquaphor since her skin is very dry!

We started giving DS daily baths at around 3-4 weeks, it was part of our nightly routine. He loved it!

We tried for every other day, but Xander has eczema so we were actually told to only do it 2-3 times a week.

My daughter is 4 months old. I take her in the shower with me on Sunday morning and then we give her a bath usually once or twice during the week. She loves bath-time, we just don't feel she needs a bath very often at this age.

When she was tiny, we bathed her every few days. I think around 4 weeks we started doing every other day and sometime between 6-8 weeks we started a daily bath - mainly because she loves her bath so much and we wanted to start establishing a bedtime routine. We only washed her hair and used soap every 2-3 days at that point, though. Once she started daycare, we started soaping her down each night to get rid of the germies.

So far A haaates bath time. Screaming till she's red in the face until she's clothed and you're holding her.
I'm still pondering about bedtime routine... Although I know when she wants her routine to start it's just not feasible with big sis when I'm solo. So. .. Yeah....

Clearly we're disgusting! The hospital said 1-2x/week. We're lucky to do weekly. DS hates it so much, so it's tough. Last time showed signs of improvement though.

At that age we did it every other night but that was because it was immediately calming. If he'd hated it, we probably would have skipped more often than not. I just wiped him down and cleaned out his little neck if he didn't have a bath.

I've just starting giving DD daily baths as part of her nighttime routine. She's a month old. the past month I bathed her every 2-3 days.

@Mrs.Someone: Hah, us too! Mayyybe 3x a week when I was home, but now that I'm back to work, once a week will probably be the norm.
I use cloth wipes and make my spray out of soap + water, so I know her diaper area is plenty clean!

@swurlygurl: Out of curiosity, what kind of soap do you mix with water for your cloth wipes? I'm currently just using water, but sometimes I think I need a bit more cleaning power than that.

I bathed every day. My kids didn't like baths either but I just wanted it to be part of the routine.

Everyday! I probably didn't need to since she didn't get that dirty but she liked it and I liked her smelling fresh and clean.

@pui: I just use our bath soap. Sometimes it's J&J, sometimes Aveeno, sometimes California Baby. I have a large spray bottle, add 10 pumps/drops and fill with water

@Andrea: how did you handle bedtime routine when dd2 was a newborn and you are home alone? I know ideally dd2 wants to start bedtime routine the same time as dd1. That's just not feasible. Unfortunately #2 suffers.

@regberadaisy: my son hated bath time for the first month as well then he came around and loves it. We do nightly as well to establish a routine.

@Stacy: I'm waiting for her to come around! I do love bathtime as part of the nightly routine. I bathe my toddler pretty religiously every night as part of her routine.

@regberadaisy: I put DD2 to bed first so DD1 would just hang out during the bath. Can you keep DD1 up longer since she is older?

Every other day. I do a decent wipe down with a no rinse baby solution and then I clean her diaper area daily just at the bathroom sink.
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@Andrea: she can. But dd2 takes foreverr. Hopefully in the coming weeks that will change. It will be more ideal if dd2 goes to bed first.

As an infant we did every few days, maybe a couple times a week. Now that he's a toddler we still don't bathe every day, but we do give him a bath as soon as he's home from preschool (which is 3 times a week) to get the germs off. He never seems really *dirty*, but there's nothing like a fresh clean baby!

We were doing 2x a week up until about 8 weeks when F started to love bath time, so we decided to start daily baths as night routine.

I bathed lo 1-2 times a week until she was about 4 months and then wanted to do a bedtime routine. We never used soap, only shampoo when her hair needed to be washed.

We do every other day, and have since her umbilical cord came off at 9 days to establish a bed time routine. On her nonbath nights she still gets a wipe down, lotion, sleeper, bottle, and then swaddle. Shes started to really love it so we are considering everyday, but if yours isn't a fan I don't think more than 2-3x a week is all that necessary.
persimmon / 1343 posts
I did 1-2 times a week till she started really walking and getting dirty, then switched to every other day, sometimes two days in a row

1-2 times per week until he was mobile, then every second day at the most. Daily bathing is so drying to the skin and we already have dry skin and eczema issues.
cherry / 163 posts
DS isn't a big fan either at 9 weeks but he's not screaming crying the whole time either which is an improvement! Therefore we only do it about every three days.
pear / 1974 posts
we just started this week doing it every day as a bedtime routine to see if it'll help his sleep (it hasn't so far) but before that no more than 2-3 times a week. LO is 6 weeks.
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
Once a week. She's never dirty or out and about and we were told no more often than that.
My toddler on the other hand? Once a day at minimum and sometimes in the morning, too, depending on what he's up to that particular day!

This makes me feel so much better! We only do 2 times per week at 4 months.
pomegranate / 3604 posts
Toddler: I try for everyday but it doesn't always happen. I'd say 4-5 times a week.
Infant: once or twice a week. He's only 7weeks old.
I cannot wait until I can throw them in the bath together.

e/o day but i'm considering switching to every day for the sake of a consistent bedtime routine.

LO is 13m and we have never bathed her very often. It is definitely not part of our nighttime routine. I'd say she has on average two baths a week and she loves them. She does get wiped down with a warm washcloth after meals (she just eats in her dipe) but I don't find she is ever that dirty. I've always had insanely dry skin so I'm trying to avoid that with her.
kiwi / 524 posts
At that age we only bathed him once a week. We would wipe him down with a damp cloth before bed on the other nights.
Now that he's eating watermelon and running around in muddy fields we bathe him every night. Luckily his skin is a lot less sensitive now. I still only wash his hair about twice a week.
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
LO is 3.5 weeks old and gets a bath every 2-3 days. He did not enjoy his first bath, but I think it was because he was cold/uncomfortable. Once I set up a better system (use bathwater a wee bit hotter than recommended since it cools so darn fast, keep a small space heater blowing on him, warm his onesie on said space heater while toweling him off, and keep his torso covered in a hand towel while in the tub, etc.) he really enjoys it now. I don't always soap up his body, but always use a soapy wash cloth for his bum and usually use a little soap on his hair since he gets dribble or spit up in it at some point.
He didn't like like being lotioned at first, but then we figured out that he loves it if you do it while he's on his tummy. I guess it feels like a massage. He goes totally limp when I do that.
Then he gets a warm onesie and a hat and then we wrap him up in a blanket and snuggle him for a while to warm him up and he's pretty happy.
