We had pics done in September and I'm thinking I'm going to skip doing them again this year. Maybe we'll do them every two years but do the kids every year? I don't know!! What do you do??

We do them once per year around LO's birthday (October). We use those for our holiday cards too.

We did newborn pics (March 2014) summer mini session July 2014 (free, we won it), 6 month minis, christmas minis 2014, first birthday mini session, Christmas 2015 mini, 2nd birthday mini coming up in March. .
So first year we did a lot, after he turned 1 we just did pics that day and then Christmas.
ETA: the only family ones were both Christmas minis and the session we won. The rest was just DS and I hopped in for a couple pics for his bday and newborn. DH was working.

We only started getting pics once DD was born. We had her newborn session in March of 2014 and then family pics 14 months later in May of 2015 (mini session). We'd like to get another family one done in September of this year. I think they're too expensive to justify more than every 18 months or so for the whole family, although I do plan to do the LOs at least once a year.

We usually do them once a year in November for our Christmas cards. Other times would be newborn or deployment homecoming pictures, but those aren't random.

Professional, we've done for the first time this past year. It was for a fundraiser for my son's school, I hope to continue to do it on a yearly basis. For the cost ($80) it's worth it, all you need is one good photo!

I’m thinking back on ours we did LO#1s newborn (hospital photographer), 3-6-9-1year (JCPenny studio), 2.5 years (real - professional), all of LO#2s above newborn-1 years (JCPenny)… I’m thinking of doing a real professional again when LO#2 is 2.5 years also which will make LO#1 about 5.5 years.
So it looks like we are going to do our professionals every 3 years with maybe some JCPenny Studio photos in between.

We've been doing them once a year. Previously, we just added them in when we had DS1's pictures done since he's a November baby. We use them as our Christmas cards. Now that he's a bit older, I'd like to just do a mini session with the family in October. We did 6 month and will do 1 year pics with DS2 but probably won't include the family with those.
We only did family pictures once growing up and I wish we had done more.

We did several his first year but probably wont do another one until the fall. I like annual pictures!

We had some done when T was 3 months and then again at 9 months. I had JUST stopped BFing cold turkey the day before in our 9 month family pics and I was bloated and puffy as all get out in the pictures. They turned out so awful (of me). I've had pictures of T done since then but no family pics.
We'll probably get maternity/newborn family pics when #2 comes along and then yearly after that.

We do it once a year. We have a great photographer and catch her when she does her Fall mini-sessions. It ends up being ~$75 for 30 min with all digitals included. We get so many different pics that we really don't need many more.

I want to do family pics annually but dd will be one in June and ds will be three in November. So I don't know when to do them!

We did them with each baby but that's it. From here on out I would like to try to do a mini session in the fall most years if we can.
@Ash: I don't think you need to tie it to a birthday, unless you wanted to do a special first bday one. I would do it when it works best for you regardless of bday-like if you want summery beach photos do summer. Personally I love fall photos and the timing is good for Christmas cards so I'm going to try for that this year.

2-3 times a year but it helps that my bf is a photographer and so am I, so we swap sessions usually 1x a year. This year I am hiring two photographers- one for Ts first birthday (her newborn photographer that we loved) and one for our 10 year anniversary (a film photographer I have been following for years) but that's not typical.

Maybe 1-2 times a year with a tripod or friend. We did pics for the holidays and it was our first pro session since LO 1's newborn pictures 4 years ago.

I love having some good photos of the entire family (usually I'm not in the photos and I want my kids AND me to have photos of me while I'm youngish). I do whatever feels right and so far it's been mostly milestones. Maternity 2012, new born with DD 2012, 1 year shoot with DD 2013, shoot with my side of the family 2014, new born with DS and family shoot 2015. We have a shoot with my DH side of the family this summer and I want to do a little something for DS 1 year. I'm thinking if I can't come up with an excuse to have photos each year I'll at least find a mini session somewhere.

The ones i Like locally are just too expensive and don't even include digital images. But I finally found one that I like well enough for the price. Maybe 2016!

We try to do a family session with a photog once a year.
We did our first around DS1's first bday, second bday, then in 2015 we tacked on some shots to DS2's newborn session, this year I think we'll do them in June, just before DS2's first bday... DS1 will be 3.5!

We do family pictures in June or July and then again in October or November. Minis of the boys inbetween. I love having lots of pictures.

I would recommend early fall for photos so you have them for Christmas. We did ours in October, so DS was only 10 months, but close enough I guess.

We haven't since my littlest was a newborn, and she'll be 2 on Saturday. I'd like to do some again soon, but I take so many photos of them every day, I forget we should also get some of the entire fam.
