How often do you replace your bath towels? We were gifted towels at our wedding shower 4.5 years ago. They are in really rough shape. I was going to ask for some for Christmas but now I'm thinking I can't wait that long. There are several with holes and it's driving me crazy!
Bonus points if you can tell me your favorite towels to help me get started on shopping!

We got the hotel collection ones from macys from our wedding registry and I LOVE them!! We got 6 towels 3 years ago and they still look/feel like new.

Never replace all of them, but ill buy two and toss two old ones like once a year

yeah, we're running on 4.5 years too... it's time to change them out, but we're probably moving in the next 6 months, so i'm holding out!

I'd say probably every three years. I love Ralph Lauren towels. I got my last ones on sale at Neiman Marcus online.

Eh, every 2-3 years. Ours are from Costco, love them!

They're super soft, but still really absorbent, but also dry fast

We've had our towels for 7.5 years. It never occurred to me that I should replace them. I'll probably get new white ones soon since ours are in rough shape, and I keep talking about replacing the blue ones because they are the exact color of our bathroom and it irks me, but I haven't yet because they are still in really good shape and it feels wasteful.

Errr we don't. We have a ton of towels that we rotate through. Our oldest towels are about 7 years old and still in great shape.

@Freckles: Same here! A few are in rougher shape, but generally we retire those to dry our dogs.

I have lots of towels that I rotate from and my preference changes from year to year. One year I was really into the Ralph Lauren towels so bought a whole bunch that were on sale at Macy's. They are still in great shape even after a few years. The next year I was into the thin micro fiber towels so I bought a bunch of those too. This summer I found some "rough" towels similar to the ones at the gym that is great for drying and exfoliating the skin. I bought a few of these from Walmart for $1.97! Our linen closet looks like I hoard towels but I do rotate them and they are still in great condition so I don't want to throw them out.

@avivoca: Same here. I'm pretty certain I went through my entire childhood and adolescence with the same towels...
Our towels are a combination of DH's and my towels, and mine are the newest...maybe 5 years old? They're holding up.

We got 6 for our wedding 4 years ago from kohls and they still look and feel new! But I only wash our towels once a week, not after every use. Does that prolong their life? They are reasonably nice but not super expensive or anything.

We got some from JCpenney 9 yrs ago when we got married and we replaced them (meaning , we sent those to the guest room bath) and got new ones last Christmas. They are from target but cant remember the brand.
I always buy my towels all at the same time because I want them to match

The white set we got for our wedding 6 years ago is still in pretty good shape- except for two bath towels that have mysteriously gone missing
DH just got his "own" set of gray ones two years ago and they still look great. I think if we'd kept sharing the white ones the last two years we'd need to replace them by now.White ones are Thomas O'Brien from Target (looks like them don't sell them anymore). Gray ones are Tahari Home, purchased from TJ Max.

We have had our current ones for 3 years. We buy the super expensive bath sheets, and they hold up so well. If they start falling apart or get stained, I'll get new ones.

I also still have one of the towels my parents got when they got married. I wish the tag hadn't worn off, cause I'd love to know what kind of towels last for 40 years! lol
It's totally 70s in the fern design on it, but I can't get rid of it because it reminds me of my childhood. And I also can't believe how much towels have grown. This bath towel is barely bigger than a hand towel!

Our old towels were about 7 yrs old, and we just got new towels last Christmas! I still keep the old ones as back-up and swim towels.

I replace ours about every 4-5 years. I still have towels from when I was single and just living with DH. Those towels are now used for LO's bath since he outgrew the hooded towel. The other ones we got from Target from our registry are getting old, so when they do the Fieldcrest coupon on Cartwheel, I pick up more.

I think as long as they don't smell, look old, have tears, then I'll keep them!
I use old towels for my dog, or DH keeps them around for fishing so I never truly throw them out.

We haven't bought new towels since our wedding 4.5 years ago. They are still in good shape. We have 3 or 4 that are smaller and look older, so I use those for my hair.

@Freckles: yeah, same here. Although, I do wish we could throw them all out and get white hotel towels. Ours are kind of a mash-up and it drives me a little crazy.

I buy a couple new ones about once a year. My old ones end up being dog/cleaning towels.

I tend to buy a few new sets each year. I like a variety and we use rotate quite often. Agree, the Ralph Lauren ones tend to hold up really well.

We have two from a fancy store I can't remember the name of that my husband bought before we were married and we have two plus two hand towels from restoration hardware that we got for our wedding 5.5 years ago and they are all in great shape! At this point, the only reason I would get new ones is if we renovated the bathroom and changed the decor.
