I want to take Charlie to a Yankees game... not b/c I'm a huge Yankees fan, but just b/c I don't want him to be a Red Sox fan. Or (possibly worse), a Mets fan.
But at 2 1/2 or so, he's probably too young to enjoy a ball game for now.
How old does your LO have to be before you can take them to a ball game?

We go to a lot of baseball games and I have seen kids Charlie's age at all of them. They usually do pretty well for a couple of innings and then get antsy and bored. I think that the kids around 4 years old seem to be able to enjoy the game and pay attention pretty well.

My parents took me to my first Braves game when I was 3 or 4. I don't remember anything about going except the bus ride to Atlanta. We went with a church group.

We took LO to a MLB game on his third birthday last month...we thought he would be wiggly but we planned on walking around with him. He actually sat still the entire game! He was obsessed. And he loves ballpark food haha.

I want to take LO (currently 2yo) but DH says not until she is old enough to sit still. My neighbors have taken their LO (will be 1 in July) to several games, both professional and college, since he was tiny.

Here in Red Sox country it's not unusual to see newborns in baby bjorns at the games, but I think it's more just so they can say they 'started them early'. I think 3 or 4 is probably a good time to start.

We have a friend who will often take his toddler to games-- turns out under a certain age is free so he will go the day of, buy a single ticket and hang out until the little one gets antsy. They seem to really get a kick out of the time together.

We took LO to her first college baseball game at 5 months. We lasted about 6 innings. We're taking her to her first MLB game this Sunday at 7 months. We've also taken my nephews to football and basketball games as toddlers and preschoolers. The key is to be flexible and willing to leave the game when the kids are ready to go. Also, be prepared to stomach public restrooms that aren't super clean. And hotdogs seem to appease toddlers

@Rachel: I was at a Red Sox game over the weekend and saw a baby that couldn't have been older than 2 or 3 weeks. I was pretty surprised that the parents were willing to expose a newborn to all of those people.

I plan to take LO to a game at about 4.5 months because that's when the Red Socks will be in town. he was gifted a couple of Red Sox outfits so I have to take him to a game before he outgrows them!

@MamaMoose: Ha yup! My dad woke me (3) and my brother (1) up to watch the end of game 6 of the 1986 World Series, because in the event that they won, he wanted us to witness it. My mom was pissed. Serious stuff!

My dad says we're spoiled, having all of our teams win championships so early in our lifetime, and that we don't know what it's really like to be a Boston fan. When they won in 2004 he went to his dad's grave and put a world series champions banner there.

Red Sox fan here, too! However, I can not comprehend people bringing infants to the game. I think if you need to go to the baseball game then find a baby sitter.

My DH enjoys going to the local team here, and I can see us taking our daughter at a young age, she may not enjoy it but we will! I will just walk with her if she gets fussy since I'm not a big enough fan to get upset about missing anything. We don't have a MLB so we aren't spending a lot of money to go see a game if we would need to leave early!

We weren't about to miss Spring Training just because we had a new baby! We took him to his first game when he was not quite 12 weeks old. He went to 7 full games in March, and he slept through a lot of it, although when he was awake he was very interested in people watching. He just went to his first regular season MLB game this past Sunday and did great.
I've got a million tips for taking infants to sporting events, but no experience with older children yet
