I had to be 10 so that's my current line but who knows if I'll cave once she gets closer (starting k in fall).

DD1 is 4.5 and asked and asked and asked. Had a PA Day June 2nd and she planned that was the day to do it. I think her friends at school and her had been talking about it. I said sure, she picks when. She was sooo brave and so far, so good!

DD had them done 3 months ago for her 8th birthday. She had been asking since age 6 so it's been a long time coming. My thought was that by 8 she'd be able to take care of them and keep them clean on her own... well she was but one still got seriously infected and we had to go to the children's hospital to have it removed! Gah. They said they see it all the time lol. After it healed we had it repierced and so far so good.

Interesting range of responses! I had to wait until 10, so that was going to be my rule, too. But I couldn't really come up with a good reason why. Waiting until they can keep it clean, etc. themselves is a good reason, and that must vary by kid.

@Mrs Panda: My daughter at age 5 couldn't actually do the cleaning, but she was old enough to remind us. She would get the solution and 2 cotton balls morning and night and make sure to bring them to us for her cleaning. Now the cleaning/healing process is only 3 weeks so its not that long. It was supposed to be 3 times a day but she was at school. We did twice a day and after school if we remembered.

My mom always said I had to be 26 I was never interested, and still don't have them pierced. I'm not sure what we'll do with our two girls. DH would say never, so we'll see.

I was 10 when I had mine done. I feel like that worked well for me, so that's probably what my rule will be too.

@T.H.O.U.: I think that would be the case for us right now too. Good to know it's only 3 weeks!

When she asks probably. I had mine done at 3, most women have their ears pierced. I don't see it as being a huge deal.

I was 13 when I had mine done. My DD was 4 1/2 and started asking and asking to get them done. We had a long talk about how it would work, went to a family lunch and then headed up to Claire's. She did great! No tears, was very diligent about cleaning her ears and twisting them every morning and night. All good and she loves them!

I was 5 and it was a birthday gift from my grandparents (with my parents permission of course). They bought me special earrings to be used after the basic studs came out. I still have those earrings to this day. I think it was a good age as I understood the care needed.

My mom took me when I was 10 for my birthday. She let me pick out a bunch of earrings too. That seems like a reasonable age and I'll likely do the same with DD.

she's been asking for a year now, I told her kindergarten but she has to take care of them...so we will see.

When she understands, not afraid of the pain, will clean it herself or at least not reject me helping her.
I got it done in middle school but got infected and then I didn't do it again till end of high school! I was/am a big wuss tho haha.
