H is obsessed with our dog. I wonder if she would enjoy the zoo.
When did your LO go to the zoo, and did they enjoy it?

@Running Elley: I may take H when K gets home! It's hot as hell here though and the Miami Zoo is 30 mins away- mehhhhh!!!

We haven't been to the zoo yet, other then Bush gardens which is one big zoo. She was 18 months and she wasn't very excited about the animals. She preferred the rides.
We did go to the aquarium when she was even younger though and she liked that. I think its easier to see things there because the aquariums are smaller and right in front of your face, while the animals at the zoo. An be hard to spot and blend in with their surroundings.

LO has been twice and she's only just turned 7 months so she hasn't been too interested. First time was about 7 weeks old and the 2nd time when she was 6 months. She liked the monkeys but that was about it. Waiting til she's a bit older to go again.

We went when she was just a tiny little thing - really it was for me. We've been going her whole life, basically. Now she's obsessed with the place and always asks to go.

We went this past weekend with my parents! M will be five months this week and she seemed to really enjoy it. She definitely focused in on the animals and smiled at them so I call that a success!

My bestie and I took N when he was about 2 weeks old. We went back again just after he was 6 months. He had a good time this last time. He was most amused by the insect house. When we took him the first time he slept pretty much the whole time. (It was more for me and my friend. )

We just took LO a few weeks ago, just before she turned 10 months. She is OBSESSED with cats (we have a cat) and she lived the zoo. She was especially excited to see the elephants, lions and apes. We fed leaves to a giraffe, which she was suspicious about. It licked the leaves right out of her hand, which she was not too sure about. The rest of the zoo she loved.

We took L to see Zoolights when she was 3-4 weeks old. Clearly, it was for me and DH, and she slept the whole time. We've been a few times since because we live within walking distance and it's free. She's still too young at 4.5 months to be too into it.

She was 13 months when we took her for the first time. I think that was the perfect age - she loved looking at all the animals and was waving at the elephants

LO was just a month shy of turning 2 when we went to our small local zoo. We had more fun hanging out by the river afterwards. I think he would have enjoyed it more if we went to a bigger zoo with more animals.

5 months. He was never uncovered though (blanket over coarsest in stroller). We have a fabulous zoo and got annual passes. It's great for walking too...lots if hills.

She went at around 14-15 months and LOOOOVED it. We took her to the aquarium when she was 8 months old and I think she was too young to really enjoy it.

@PrincessBaby: Definitely wait until K gets home! And go super early before it gets too hot! SIL and I have been going at around 9:30 and we stay until a little after 11. Towards the end it was getting too hot. We decided we'll go at opening (8am) from now on.

We didn't take DS until he was 2! He loved it though we will probably take DD earlier, although not before 18 months or so.

First time my lo went he was 2 weeks old. Then we went to an aquarium when he was 3 months old. he was pretty alert and seemed to enjoy looking at the fish.

My parents have a HUGE fish-tank and E loves it (6m) and we have a cat who he loves, so I think he would love the zoo. I think he started to notice both at about 5m? 5.5? He even loves his stuffed puppy that barks and he has an elephant that he holds all day, so yeah maybe take H in a few weeks?

11 months old. She loved some of the bigger animals. kangaroos, sea lions and lemurs were the biggest hits. Here's us with a rhino

DS was around 7 or 8 months when we took him for the first time. He didn't really care about it. We took him again after moving when he was 10 months and he wasn't too excited about it. He's 19 months now and I think he would enjoy it more.

We first him to a zoo at 7 months and then a little over a year. He didn't notice any of the animals. We took him again around 2 but he didn't enjoy it then. He didn't start enjoying it until he was around 3. His younger sister is 21 months now and has been enjoying the since since around 1.

I started taking him at 3 weeks, but he didn't care until around 7 months when he really started to notice things. He loves the zoo and aquarium at 15 months, but it is still mostly just a chance for us to get out of the house and walk around.

DD wasn't super into it ger first time at 4 months. When we went back at 10 months, though, she loved it. DS went for the first time at 11 months and it was,a huge hit with him, too. No we we go every month!

he was between 3-4 months. he didn't seem like he had any idea what was going on lol

LO has only been to the actual zoo once in his 2.5 years! We do visit some nature centers regularly and have been doing that since a few months after he turned one. Their tanks/displays are often smaller and it's never crowded (and admission is often free or close to it). I would start with a place like that. When we did go to the zoo at 2 yo, it was kind of overwhelmingly big, to be candid.
We also sometimes check out the 'panda cam' and 'elephant cam' online--SF zoo and the National Zoo both have animal cams.
ETA: Another nature center benefit is that they're often staffed by volunteers who are pleased as punch to see a baby/toddler come in! LO is a regular, so they now know him and tell him (and me) all about their displays.

We're planning to take LO to the zoo for the 1st time between 8-9 months (he'll be 8 months this week, so we think he'll enjoy now it at this age). LO also loves our dog, so hopefully it will be a hit

3 months old, I think. We went during the winter and looked at things like the elephants in the elephant house and the fish in the aquarium. He loved it!

we just went this past weekend at 5.5 months and she didn't really seem interested in the animals (they were kind of far away though and hard to spot) but she did love looking around at everyone and it was nice to get out as a family and do something fun.

6.5 months - she really didn't care, haha. she liked to watch the seals - and liked to stare at the elephants but that was really it!

We are thinking about it now that LO is almost a year. We took him to a farm when he was around 6 months and he slept the entire time. He even slept through the pig races.. madness!!

We plan to take LO somewhere between 4-6 months, but we don't expect her to be too over the moon about it haha! We just plan on visiting the zoo in my ILs town because *I* love the zoo lol!
