My LO will be 9mo on Wednesday and he doesn't yet. I'm definitely not worried about it but just wondering what's "normal".

Sometime between 6-7 months, but closer to 7 months, I think. I don't think there's a normal when it comes to these things... they're so all over the place!

E started when he was 12 months... I definitely wouldn't worry yet!

I forget, but he was "later" than what people say is usual...like 13 months or so? He loves to clap and dance now!

I can't remember when LO1 did, but LO2 just did and she's 9 months.

She was born on November 25th and started clapping on August 2nd. I remember because we were on vacation. So.....8 months, 2 weeks.

He just started clapping last week at almost 7 months. But he just does it when he wants, not if you try to get him to do it, for example, to show grandpa, etc.

DS would hit two toys/balls/whatever was in his hands together at 8 months and I'd say "clap clap clap" and then when he didn't have anything in his hands I'd say "clap clap clap" and he'd hit his hands together but not a real, straighten his fingers out and clap kind of clap. But then around 9.5 months we went to visit my parents and my mom played patty cake with him over and over (because he loved it!) and that's when he really started to clap in earnest!

DS was about 9 months and it was the first of a whole load of new stuff, high fiving, waving and kissing! He did a lot of banging toys together before he got the hang of clapping!

This was the only thing my LO was "late" on. He'd clap toys together but not his hands until 12 months. He was already walking well at that point!

Close to a year - but he was walking at 10 months, lol
He finally clapped mimicking Dora despite my efforts for months

It's so sad that I can't remember already!!! I think I have it written down somewhere but I think she was 7 or 8 months. She was clapping well before she started daycare at 10 months.

He was pretty early with the clapping, I was so surprised as at just after 6 months.
But I remember it took him a while to learn how to wave so, I guess every baby is different fast on some things slow on others!

Man, I can't remember! I'm fairly certain it was after her first birthday. She never really got into clapping though

DS didn't clap until 13 months!! I was so worried about it, but now he claps all the time. He just wasn't interested in it before that.

@travellingbee: ditto! He was walking well before he even attempted to clap. He was even waving and pointing before clapping.

Took forever - like you, I was waiting and waiting and trying to teach her how. 5 days before she turned 1, her aunt clapped her hands in front of LO and it just clicked. She started clapping ALL THE TIME from that day on.

11, almost 12 months. He would point and wave, but had no interest in clapping. In the last few weeks, we've clapped and walked!
