Just curious. I know there is a range of normal and I genuinely hope this doesn't stress anyone out. Just curious as to where our babies fall in this range.

10.5 months for intentional, relatively controlled steps. Into Drs arms on Father's Day!

He took his first steps right at 9 months but wasn't walking consistently until 10 months.

10 months walking, cruising for two months before that. He didn't really crawl for long at all.

Charlie walked at 13 months and Olive walked at 18. I was never worried about Olive (wouldn't have started worrying until 19 months), because I know several kids that didn't walk until 18 months and that's within the upper limit of average. She continued to make progress so I knew it would happen eventually. She was just a cautious girl, and had low muscle tone.

I'll be watching this thread! LO is 14 months old and took one step a frew weeks ago but is not quite ready to walk on his own, He cruises like a champ and is pretty solid on his feet walking a few steps with us, but he hasn't shown much interest in walking on his own.
He is an amazing crawler. Like super speed crawler. I don't think he sees any real need to walk!

I didn't realize you had enabled multiple votes, so just Lorelei appears in the results. Ellie was 16 months, and Lorelei was 11.

Am I the only one who is surprised at the % of early walkers?! Wow!
I didn't say earlier but dd was 12 months (a few steps before that but she started primarily walking just after her birthday) which seems to be pretty average.
@Periwinkle: I think from dd taking a couple steps to primarily walking it was about a month! Probably very soon for your son, how exciting!!!

@googly-eyes: that was my first reaction after I answered the poll....holy early walkers!!!

@googly-eyes: Yes!! R will be 10 months on Sat, and has taken one step a couple times but not walking for sure. Everyone IRL tells me that is super early. I wonder what people consider walking: 3 or 4 steps or full or walking like 10 ft....

Wow, 10 months is the most common for this poll! We are approaching a year adjusted. He's got great balance and stands all the time, but still rarely lets go. Wondering if he'll just take off one day or if he'll stay stuck in this stage for awhile...

Funny, I guess everyone in my family is an early walker but I didn't realize how unusual that is:
First steps in order-
Niece #1- 7.5 months (no joke!)
Dad- 8 months
Brother and niece #2- 9 months
Me- 10 months
Mom 10.5 months
So my LO is 10 months next week and I'm like... where are the steps buddy? LOL- I will be patient. Especially now that I see that is still pretty early.

M just took her first steps at almost 15 months. Still waiting for full-on waking. She's super verbal and just not interested in walking at all. I didn't walk until I was 18 months so I'm trying to relax about it.

Chloe took her first step at 7 months, and was full on walking by 9. My dad recently found a vide of her walking at the beach in August 2012!

It was a few days before his 1st birthday that he took a few tentative steps. He was off and walking steadily right after his birthday!
I'm also surprised at how many early walkers there are!

12 months and some change. He started walking about two months earlier than cousins.
