9th grade and only because my boyfriend was in 10th grade and got his drivers license !!!

16! When I started driving.

I was 15. I got it for Christmas the year before I got my license.

Um 22? They didn't really exist before that.. at least not widely.

I got one in 9th grade. I was 14.

19 or 20? Before that everyone had pagers, lol. But I never had one. My first phone was the Nokia where you could change the faceplate.

I had one in 7th grade, but only because I was responsible for getting myself to the public library after school, and it was in a pretty ghetto area. I had to call my mom when I got there, and then she would call me when she was on her way to pick me up. That stupid phone didn't having texting abilities, and the battery only lasted 1 hour (I turned it on when I got to library, turned it off after I called my mom, then turned it back on in the time frame when mom got off work), so I couldn't get in too much trouble with it.

I got a real phone with texting and a substantial battery in 9th grade (had to get myself to and from school still)

I think I was 22 when I got my first one. Remember, though - I'm old.

I was 17 when I got my own plan but I think I had one under my parents plan when I was 16.

I think I was like 17? I didn't even want it and I hardly used it. It was a crummy little flip phone. My younger sister (who was 15 at the time) also got one (it was Christmas) and she was thrilled.

I was in college! It was a Nokia non-flip phone (the prepaid kind).

@MamaMoose: yes! I had an old school Nokia too!

I was in 10th grade so 15 I think. That's when cell phones started getting more widely used.

I got one in grad school, so I was 22.

I was 21 and a senior in college - in 2001!

5th grade because I was enrolled in a magnet school that was fifteen minutes from my parent's (respective) offices and thirty minutes from home. Because of the long commute and always having to be picked up/ dropped off, I needed a way to be able to keep in touch with my parents in case one of them forgot to come pick me up for whatever reason (meetings, emergencies, they thought I needed to stay late, thought the other parent was coming to get me, etc.) It was also helpful for those times that my dad had to send one of his 'minions' to come get me. If I was expecting him and saw them, I could call and make sure I was supposed to go with them. That only happened once or twice.

10th grade

@JessiBee: Agree! I think it was 2001!

@Mrs. Bee: My first cell phone was a Startac too! I got it for my senior year of college, I think it had about 20 minutes a month on it, lol. Before that when I was home my mom had me take hers when I was driving around by myself - it was a BAG phone.

OMG, I can't believe I carried this around places. And now I feel really old.

14. It was a Nextel, so it had the walkie talkie thing on it, my dad would walkie talkie me when he knew I was in public. We were at a hotel one time and he did it while I was in the elevator, there was no way to shut it up. So he goes "KATI. I NEED YOU TO COME BACK TO THE ROOM. YOUR MOM SAID YOU NEED TO GET READY FOR DINNER. OVER." And everyone was just staring at me with this big walkie talkie phone talking to someone who thought it was funny to say "Over" and "Roger that". Gah.

I was 18 and got it as a graduation gift. It was a nokia something or other.
