19 or 20. It was a Nokia and it was pre-flip phones. I don't think you could even get cell reception in my hometown inNorthern WI until I was almost done with college so no one I knew back home even had one.

14, when I started driving. I only had 30 minutes a month though, it was for emergencies only. I had the Motorola Talkabout, the free phone with a contract at the time!

I was 20 and it was my junior year in college, fall of 2001. If I remember correctly, my parents decided to add me to their "plan" after 9/11. It was also the old school Nokia with a bright pink faceplate that had butterflies on it - hahaha.

I think I was 16 or 17. We won a years worth of free service from US cellular. That's the only reason why we had them that early. Otherwise I don't think I would have had one till my early 20's

I was 18 and a senior in HS. People were just starting to get them, and I think by my sophomore year of college, everyone had one. It was a giant Nokia and I thought I was super cool because I had a spongebob cover for it. Sorta like this:

I was 21. 2001 right after 9/11. Because of my crazy busy schedule at school my parents couldn't reach me for two days. Day three they sent a cell phone.

I got once for Christmas when I was 16, with the stipulation that it would be taken away from me if I went over my minutes... which wasn't fair, because back then, your "minutes" was 90 a MONTH. Who gives a 16 year old a cell phone and tells them not to talk more than 90 minutes a MONTH?

My cell phone lasted exactly one month. And then I was grounded for 6 because my cell phone bill was something outrageous like $500. Oops??

I didn't get a cell phone again until I was 18, had a job and went off to college and could pay for it myself. I've had the same number since!

19, in college, in 1999! Mine was actually a pretty slim, small phone (Nokia, maybe?)

12 or 13. I was on a family plan with my parents, aunt and uncle. It was a tank sized nextel. Having that phone now would be utterly ridiculous but back then, it was the shit.

When my sister started driving at 17 we were given a phone to share in the car. Technically I was 15 but I was never allowed to touch it! lol!

It was a Nokia. That thing could be run over and still worked fine.
