I was in the 4th grade I think, so I was 9. I would let Olive pierce her ears then too (but not Charlie!).
How old were you? How old will you let your daughter pierce her ears?

i first got them done when i was in 3rd grade, but i didn't take care of them like i should and they got infected. i got them re-pierced in middle school. it hurt more the second time!
i'll probably let my daughter get her ears pierced whenever she wants, but i'll make sure to teach her more about the upkeep.

I was 21. We'll probably let our daughter get our ears pierced when she's in middle school. I don't really like the look of earrings in little kids.

@photojane: same here. got infected and i had to get them repierced. then left earrings out and the holes closed up and i had to get them pierced again! now i rarely wear ear rings, but the holes seem to be there permanently.

I got mine done when I was 7 or 8 I think? I'm not a diligent earing wearer but they never closed up. I'm going to wait for LO to be old enough to ask for earings before piercing them.

I got them done in first grade, so I was about 6 or 7. I remember getting quite a few painful infections from not cleaning them properly, but if my daughter asked, I would probably let her do it then as well.

I don't remember exactly but I think I was in junior high. I will probably let my daughter pierce her ears around the same age.

I was 2. I don't even remember it. I got my 2nd hole at like 13. We are also going to wait until LO asks for them.

My mom had mine pierced when I was a few years old but I flipped out everytime she tried to take care of them or change them so they just closed up. Then I decided to get them pierced again at 13 (then did my own second set later that year).

My mom and dad set a rule that we had to wait until we were 10

I was 5 and my sister was 2 (we got them done at the same time).

First grade for the 1st holes and 5th grade for the 2nd holes. My ears never got infected and never closed up. In high school I had my tragus pierced (the little nub of your ear) but took it out after a year or so when it got infected. Then i pierced a set of third holes in college and they kept getting infected so I gave up and they closed up.
I think I'll let LO get hers pierced as early as first grade as long as she seems like a responsible kid...and if they get infected I will make her wait until she is in high school

I was 20. My kids can get them done when they're mature enough to ask for them and take care of them.

4 or 5. Not sure yet about what we'll do (or won't do) for our LO.

I was 16. Lo can do hers whenever she wants. My sister got hers done in kindergarten.

10 years old, for my birthday. I felt like it was a double digits rite of passage!

I think I was 7 or 8 for the first set, and about 11 for the second set. I still have both, but I usually leave the same set in.
Whenever a daughter wanted them, I would let her get up to two sets in the earlobe. I'm not big on guy piercings, but I would leave that one up to my husband for our son.

I was going to get them for my 10th birthday but I chickened out and waited a year. Thus: 11

I was 3 months old. And when Sienna turns 3 months my mom is going with her. I did get my second hole at 11

I was 14, as I didn't have much interest before then. LO can get her ears pierced when she is old enough to take care of her ears once it is done.

I was also 10. My grandmother got our ears pierced for our 10th birthdays. She would bug my dad to have us get them done but he and my mother wanted to make sure we were old enough to take care of them.
I'm not sure when we'll pierce our LO's ears but I'm guessing it will be before 10. We shall see.

I was in middle school. It was awful...they pierced crooked, AND kept getting infected. We had to end up letting them close on their own and re-pierce them later. I still have problems to this day - I have to put earrings in my ear at least once a month to prevent them from closing, and I'm not even a jewelry person, so I never really wear earrings.
We will not be piercing her ears until she is old enough to take care of them, or I decide that she's ready (if she asks me).

I was four and had been begging to have it done for years. I'll let LO decide for herself.

The first time I was 4. I remember when my mom took me and I cried a lot. I stopped wearing earrings a few years later and the holes closed. I got the repierced in high school and then got a second and third hole, two in my cartledge, and one in my rook. I still wear my first and second hole and the rook. I probably shouldn't have had them done the first time since I didn't really care for it.

I wasn't allowed til I was 16! I think I would allow my daughter after age 10?

I think I was about 4. My grandma owned a Beauty supply store and had piercing guns so she and my mom pierced them! I remember it and it didn't hurt me, I was more shocked. I'd pierce my daughter's ears when she was young.

I was 9, and asked for it. I'll probably do the same if McBebe is a girl.
ETA: I just asked DH what he thought about it, and he'd want to wait until she asked for it...he says there's something awesome about being scared of something but being brave enough to go through with it...like getting your ears pierced.
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
I was 4 and begged for them since my older sister was getting them. I has to promis not to cry and to take care of them...and I did better than my 7 year old sis!
GOLD / papaya / 10166 posts
I was 3 or 4. I only did it because I knew my sister was getting it done. I remember crying because I got scared when they did the first one.

I was eight months old. I had NO hair, and people kept assuming I was a boy. Later, the pediatrician confronted her, and asked her if she loved me more now that she had mutilated me.
I'm just thankful I don't remember the pain, and that I can go months without wearing earrings and my holes don't close up.

I got mine pierced when I was 11. Had to get them pierced twice because the first time they did it, it was uneven!

I was 4 and I asked for it myself. I think that is a good rule of thumb. Here in Mexico most baby girls have their ears pierced at birth but I don't think I can get onboard with that (if we have a girl). So, if we have a girl, probably everyone will think she's a boy until she's in kindergarten.

Wow, I was definitely the youngest at 2 days old! I have to say, I wouldn't do the same with my daughter. Something about a teenager with an earring gun at a mall booth somehow doesn't sit right with me...
