I think I was in third grade, so I was 8. I didn't have a bike (ever) so it was kinda hard to learn on friends' bikes!
How old were you?

5. We lived on a dirt road with a gravel driveway, made it a lil harder we used to go to the park & to my grandparents' house to practice on the pavement.
Edit: you mean a 2 wheeler, right? Like no training wheels or anything.

10. My friend invited me over to her house, and i knew the only way i could get there was by bike. So i taught myself in our basement!

I was in 6th grade, and didn't actually get my own bike until I was a junior in college...

I was 9. I was the last of my friends to learn because when I was 6-7 I was really sick and had a colostomy. Then my mom was really overprotective, but I finally convinced her to get me a bike. I learned at the same time my sister did (she was 6).

Uhm... 20+? Lol... I never had a bike when I was younger and on my first ride, I ran into a fire hydrant... in someone's front yard. We are talking like 20' off the pavement type of in someone's yard. My DH has not let me live that one down yet...

I was 5yr on training wheels and 6.5yrs on 2-wheels. I remember because my neighbor said, "you can't go to the 2nd grade on training wheels!" and then she taught me a few weeks before school started. My mom & her were both recent divorcees and our she was also our sitter at the time.

@littleveesmommy: don't feel bad! I was 29 years old so yeah, i learned just 3 years ago! We lived by a popular bike path in NYC and I just had to be a part of it... So fun. As a kid, I was deprived of anyone helping me get those training wheels off

@SAHM0811: Are you by West Side Highway? I biked that a few years back when parts of it by WTC were under construction and I ran into a vertical steel beam at a turn area. My bike hit it dead-on, then fell over on its side with me on it. It was the last time I biked. =P We lived in a 5th floor walk-up and never had room for bikes, so I didn't learn until I bought a house and a bike.

@littleveesmommy: yes! We lived by the Hudson but in the UWS... Our building had a bike room and that also motivated us to get bikes, haha. But, it is so scary watching those cyclists!! i saw and heard stories of injuries all the time! as a newb I biked mostly at off-peak times and usually in or right by Riverside Park where it's much quieter. That's crazy about your fall!!

I was probably around 4. Riding my bike around my neighborhood is one of my greatest childhood memories! Heck, I still love riding my bike (rode to work today!).

I was maybe 6 or 7 when I got off the training wheels. Most of my scars on my knees are from bad wipeouts on my bike (gravel road). But it was the best feeling ever to be fancy free on my bike and coasting down a hill. Those were the days...

26...I have a fear of a falling and didn't want my training wheels removed so I outgrew my bike and didn't learn to ride until I was an adult.
