We still have plenty of time to choose a name for our third baby but I am feeling like nothing will fit perfectly with our two LO's names. Or names that I like and would work can't be used for one reason or another - mostly our challenging last name.
Is there some website that I can put in sibling names and certain criteria and poof it will name our baby?
How did you decide on sibling names?

Check out the Baby Name Wizard book (I think she also has a website). It's fantastic for finding similar/sibling-type names.

We are in the same boat! Our older two have family names. But we don't really have anyone else to honor that we can easily do with a name. I don't know how we match the style of their names. So we are stuck.

@skipra: It's so hard! We haven't really started talking about names yet but I felt completely exhausted after searching for our son's name that I almost can't get excited about starting the search again! Don't you just wish there was a perfect name hidden out there?!

@T.H.O.U.: yes! Our exact problem. The few remaining names that I even like are unusable for one reason or another. It seems most men on DH's side (and even some on mine) have LO1's name and all the men on my side have LO2's name. My sister used the one name that I truly love! You are due in August, right? I will be curious to see what you decide!

I remember reading a blog where people write in with their naming dilemmas and the blogger gives her opinion and advice. I can't for the life of me remember the name. Does anyone know???

Our third girl was named by spreadsheet.
We each had a list of names and both ranked certain characteristics of those names; style, meaning, similarity to sibling names, etc.
The spreadsheet weighted certain categories based on our preferences. It spat out a name.... And we both kind of "meh". Turns out we both favored the number two name.
Our first two girls got favorite names. Somehow our third got everyone else's favorite name. I've gotten more compliments on her name than on the others.

@oliviaoblivia: I would love a naming formula spreadsheet! Ive got a google sheet with lots of lists and then combines the options with suggestions for middle names (to see how they sound together). But like you said, I need a way to kinda organize/rank by style/meaning/etc.

@T.H.O.U.: DH builds complex financial proformas all day. I think he got bored one day. Worked pretty well for us to evaluate the names less emotionally.

@oliviaoblivia: I love that name (which is so similar to DD's name). But we couldn't use it because the French pronunciation is totally different and we aren't religious at all, so I thought it would be too weird.

@oliviaoblivia: Ok, describe your rubric some more. What were your categories and what was your ranking scale?
I'm thinking like a 1-5 or 1-10 scale on the following categories and then weighing the categories:
- Honors a family member (high weight)
- Matches style of our other daughter (feminized version of a more unisex name)
- Popularity (low priority for us because we need something!)
- Easily spelled/pronounced

@T.H.O.U.: LOL we have like a million issues! We want a family name but there are not many options and our last name is HORRIBLE to work with (and unique to our family so I'm not comfortable posting it). So many of my favorites are impossible to even say with the last name. Plus we have a royal family issue where both LO's are named after current princes so we need to avoid any royal names. I think a letter or post about it would be like 10 pages long, haha.
ETA: I like your ranking/criteria. I might have to steal that!

Language of origin
Popularity
Style (matches DD1 and DD2 as sibling set)
Intuitive spelling & pronunciation
Similar pronunciation in English and Spanish
Meaning
Flow with middle and last names (middles in our family are honorary names. DD1 shares with FIL, DD2 shares with my mom, and DD3 with my dad)
Literary presence
Song
DH and I just ranked which categories were more important to us then averaged those numbers.
Then we individually ranked each name for each category. Averaged those results. Then beep beep boop and out came Eve (which I love but didn't think it matched our other girls perfectly). Funnily we both liked the second name, Aurora, despite my Sleeping Beauty misgivings.
So even though the first computer pick wasn't the one, taking the emotion out of it and figuring out what we liked and how those related to others really helped clear my mind about the name.

25% Honors Family Name (1-10)
15% Goes with last name
20% Matches sibling style
10% Popularity
20% Easy to spell/prounce
5% Meaning/definition
5% Feel/Free Score
Then I guess I have to get DH to "score" the names so we can average them out!

LO2 was up all night and in my delirious state of exhaustion I think I may have found our boy name! I'm pretty sure reading swistle for hours helped too.
Obviously it's still early and I'm not quite 100% so I am going to need to come up with a spreadsheet to test it all out.
