So our little man is 3 weeks and starting at the end of week one he would not sleep unless being held or next to me. Now he won't sleep unless I hold him. Does anyone know how to get him to sleep in the bassinet on his own. I know lots of people love co-sleeping I simply just can't sleep with him. I am so worried about him being on me or next to me that I don't sleep at all! This tired momma is running on fumes and I need some advice! Does anyone have any???

Tight swaddle and white noise? Do you have a rock n play? My kids slept swaddled with white noise in there. I would gently rock it until they fell asleep.
Good luck! I could never sleep with my kids in bed with me either when they were newborns.

The Rock n Play with a tight m swaddle was the only way to get my first to sleep without being held. I was opposed ttoho using it but out of desperation tried it after a month. She still didn't sleep well, but I could at least get short stretches in there! Hang in there

Do you have a rock and play or a swing? Like others suggest, tight swaddle and white noise, then let him sleep a bit in one of the above. I have the best luck with my son if he is very asleep before I move him.
Swaddles - you might have to see what works best for you. With my first boy, we used the Halo sleep sacks with Velcro swaddles. This time we use zip-up peanut shaped swaddles like this: https://www.amazon.com/Comfort-Harmony-Woombie-Perfect-Swaddle/dp/B00KZBXSBW
A mistake I made was thinking that bc my baby cried and fought the swaddle that he didn't like it - he just needed more soothing to feel calm.
Hang in there - you are in one of the toughest stages right now and although it might not seem like it, it will get better.

Agree w others. I used the swaddle me brand velcro swaddlers. Put his legsand body in the swaddle, but leave it open. Nurse to sleep. Then fold his arms in there and velcro him in. Rock n play.

I agree with a tight swaddle and white noise! My DS slept with me for the first 4 weeks though. I was able to nurse lying down and then roll away from him once he was asleep so I didn't have to hold him. Can you try that for now? We both slept way better after 4 weeks though when he was in his own crib. I had to swaddle, white noise and nurse him to sleep. Then stand and rock for a few minutes before laying him down. He is 5 months now and sleeps great and I just started putting him down awake and eliminating G the swaddle. Good luck. The first weeks are tough.

Have you tried an in-bed co-sleeper? That'll keep him next to you, but with some space between you.

Ok, so we decided to differentiate between daytime and night time sleep to help with this. During the day, we would hang out in the sunny front of the house and I was ok holding him for some of those naps. We had a little travel crib with a raised basinette setting and I moved that between the front of the house and our bedroom. At night, we had backout curtains in our room and kept white noise and only turned on his little start sleep turtle night light during wake-ups. The travel crib was jammed up next to my side of the bed so I could reach over and pat him when he got restless but didn't need a feed or a change. We kept him tightly swaddled and used a pacifier occasionally so he would settle on his own. We decided to firmly differentiate between night and day to help him sleep longer at night and teach him that cuddle naps were for daytime only.

I've heard people swear by the Dock-a-tot. We actually have one but we haven't used it yet because our 2 week old sleeps pretty well in his bassinet.
I agree with others that a tight swaddle which will make him feel held.

We have Velcro two differnt types, we tried just Blankets swaddles. I don't think he likes it honestly. We have the halo sleep sack that he likes but still the minute he put in the bassinet even if he is milk drunk... eyes open after about a minute and crying starts! We don't have a rock and play. I read the sleeping position in them isn't good for newborns so we didn't get one. I know everyone uses them but I read they weren't good for the spine. We have a halo bassinet. But he also hates to be on his back he likes to sleep on his side.

We did the swaddle and rock n' play. The miracle blanket was the swaddle that worked the best for us. I was reluctant to use the rock n' play at first, but it was the only way we were getting any sleep and I figured it would be much less healthy for my child to have a mother who was spacey and anxious from sleep deprivation.

My newborn is 3 weeks old too and we haven't been able to swaddle her from day 1 with a blanket so day 2 I made my husband run out and buy the halo sleep sack. I don't swaddle her arms in it since she likes to sleep with her arms above her head but the rest of the swaddle makes her feel secure.

@Weswife: We had the same problem with out son. He hated being swaddled and woke up almost as soon as I'd put him down. Or within 30 minutes. If you can't get him to sleep in a bassinet or crib, you might want to consider cosleeping after all just to get some rest! Using an in bed cosleeper like @CatchAFallingStar suggested helped us for the early days of cosleeping. We also bought a SIDS monitor (about $99 on amazon), which brought such peace of mind.
I'm not saying it's impossible to get him to sleep on his own, butwanted to give you alternatives just in case. Good luck and I hope you find rest soon.

We just sucked it up and held them to sleep (dark room, no talking) until they grew out of that phase! We took shifts so that each of us got some good sleep in the bed while the other dealt with the baby. I feel like we tried to force it a bit more with my firstborn, but with the 2nd and 3rd kids, realized it was just a phase that they would get over by about 4-5w old.
FWIW, we did try to do their bed/bassinets/whatever, and often could get small stretches of sleep, but to get anything like 3h (esp in the MOTN), we had to hold them!
