I like doing gift cards for experiences. So if they're of the age where they just want a gift card...maybe try to make it cool. A gift card to go rock climbing or to an amusement park. Get/make a card that goes along with the theme or get them some gear that goes along with the rock climbing one.

Not a gift card, but if you are just giving money, once my grandmother gave me $50 tucked into a sweater. The edge of a dollar bill was peaking out, but when I pulled it, she had pinned 50 $1s together and they all came out in a big old line. SUPER fun for a teenager!

@2PeasinaPod: only 1 replied so far and she wants a Target GC - how do you make that fun?

@Mamaof2: Can you fill a mason jar with pennies and put the gift card inside? Or if you don't want to do pennies, do some sort of candy? It's hard to spruce up a generic gift card!
Depending on how old she is, could you do a cute change purse like this?

If I'm doing a gift card I try to do a small gift in the same theme and package it together. So for a baby shower I might do cut socks or for a Sephora gift card a cute mirror. I would get a very small gift that your niece might like from Target and package it together (lip balm, fun socks, a little change purse, etc)

My nieces and nephews just want cash.
Their favorite gifts ever were when I moved and realized we had WAY too many mugs. I had enough for each kid to get one. Some had the family name on them, some had specific memories tied to them that I told them about.
For their birthdays for a year, I filled the mugs with their favorite candy and put cash in the middle of it. There's nothing they love more than candy and cash! Even the older ones. My 15 year old nephew just wanted gummy worms for his birthday.

Is this for Christmas? If you’re crafty, how about doing them up as ornaments to hang on the tree?
