DS is 17 months old. He wears cloth diapers and will start tugging at his diaper if he has pooped. When I ask him if he went potty or if his diaper is wet/dirty he will nod or shake his head. He sees DH and I use the bathroom pretty often. He can work the bathroom door handle, so if he comes in I tell him what I'm doing. I talk to him about poopy and pee going in the potty and he watches me dump and flush the poop from his diapers (and wave "bye bye"). He can't get his clothes on an off by himself though, and he still wears a lot of onesies.

I know it's still very early, but are there other signs I should be looking for to see if he is ready? Do I need to wait until he is out of onesies and can get his pants down by himself to start potty training?
