I think R has a yeast rash. It was worse this past week but we use Lotrimin, then Aquafor, then Triple Paste. The redness and one sore went away. Still using it but she is stratching/itching herself SO much this morning. What can I do??

@coacheswife123: nope! But I have to run out this morning and get more Lotrimin so I could get that instead. I will look for the thread you started! Did the Nystatin work for your LO?

We just called our ped yesterday about a bad diaper rash on R with sores and redness. However, since our ped looked at it earlier this week and determined it's not fungal she could not give us an antibiotic. This is what the on call doc said to do:
1) wipe like normal
2) have 1 container of warm water and a drop of baby shampoo.
3) wash bottom with a washcloth dipped in container 1
4) have a 2nd container of warm water with 1 tablespoon of baking soda dissolved
5) wash bottom with water from the 2nd container
6) dry
7) put on Desitin or whatever you'd like to use
It looks better already and we've only done this since last night.

@Smurfette: yes ! Nystatin twice a day. I did morning after his morning poop and before bed. I put a layer of aquaphor on top and used aquaphor for all other dipes ! It's rx only but your ped may just call some in. I would give the monistat a try in the meantime - it will prob work. We also started probiotics which helps ! My thread was called Antibiotic Problems ( I think ) they always give him a horrible yeast rash !

But since you think it's a yeast infection your ped should be able to call in antibiotics for you.

@swedishfish: Thanks! I will call them tomorrow if it isn't better. I hope they would call it in without having to see her. Leaving tomorrow for Christmas.

We got a prescription for Nystatin from the Dr. It didn't work completely on its own though so then we had to also get a script for Mupirocin and the combo did the trick. Good luck and hope the rash disappears soon!

I thought L had a yeast rash at one point (turned out it wasn't) and when I was looking things up online I saw a lot of people saying that coconut oil really helps with yeast if you have any of that. We also have used Nystatin for a bad rash.

I think we had a yeast rash and I used coconut oil for a few days. Cleared it up pretty quickly so we never saw the doctor.

This time last year, E had it SO bad. I had to stop using wipes and use a warm wash cloth with just water. Then I would use a blow dryer on low heat to dry the area completely, then apply a generous amount of coconut oil. It did help but it ended up being a yeast rash which the doctor prescribed an ointment for.

@Smurfette: @swedishfish: antibiotics would only treat a bacterial infection, not yeast. Antibiotic use can actually cause fungal infections like yeast. They might call in a prescription antifungal for you, but we've had good luck with OTC monistat. Hope your LO feels better!

When M had a really bad rash a few weeks ago I allowed for diaper free time. Letting her bum completely dry after change. Using only warm water and baking soda with a wash cloth at changes. Then a layer of coconut oil then desitin rapid relief. @bpcmarj told me that coconut oil has natural antifungal fungal properties!
I would also put baking soda in her bath as well.

We had a bad yeast rash that only cleared with nystatin paste (rx). It got bad really fast so I suggest going in some than later!

I used canesten after the doc said to use yeast infection cream for women. But another time a doc prescribed us a triple-action cream with yeast and bacteria fighting action, plus anti itch. I vote see the doc.

We are dealing with this right now, so I thought I'd chime in. I am waiting for my Triple Paste AF to arrive (I had to order it through Amazon Prime because I couldn't find it in a store), and have been using coconut oil since last night (using regular Triple Paste or Aquaphor for the last 3 days did nothing). I can already see a huge improvement! Another great use for coconut oil.

I used Caneston on my Lo. Didn't seem to do much, but Desitin (the 40% zinc oxide stuff) cleared it up. ....or it just naturally ran it's course.
