I need to tell my friend that I'm pregnant and I'm dreading it. This was a very close friend - we have gone our separate ways in the last 5 years due to life circumstances and moving farther apart, but I still consider her a good friend. She has been struggling with infertility for a couple of years and is currently on her 3rd round of IVF. She has expressed many times to me how hard it is to hear about pregnancies and other people's kids so I know my pregnancy news won't be well received. Any suggestions on how to word the text in a sensitive way? What would you say?

@Alexandra603: I personally wouldn't do it by text, but would text her to simply let her know that you sent her an email to read whenever she had a chance and that hope she is well. In the email, I would tell her that you are pregnant, explain that there is no rush to get back to you and that you love her. This is what my sister did with me when she found out she was pregnant and I was still TTC. We ended up only being 6 weeks apart in our pregnancies.

Agreed - don’t do it by text, do it by email - there’s less of an expectation of an immediate reply and less chance that she’ll get it when she’s in the middle of something else.
Also, as somebody who was in your friend’s position for a long time, please don’t think that your news won’t be well received. She will be happy for you, it will just be buried under how sad she is for herself.

I agree with others on the email. I would also title the subject something like "news" or "life update" rather than "hey/catching up." That way she might have an idea what it's about and can choose to open it at the right time.
