My LO has her 2 month vaccinations scheduled in a couple of weeks but as it turns out, we will be going on a 5 hour car ride later that day. Is this a recipe for disaster?!
Was your LO particularly fussy or just sleepy after his/her 2 month shots?

LO was a bit more fussy than usual but it wasn't disastrous. Her thighs were hot/red around where she got her shots but, other than that she was fine. Still, though, a 5-hour car ride might be a bit tough. Make sure you take plenty of breaks!

She was fussy. But she loved the car so I bet it would have helped if we drove.

LO cried for a few minutes then found her thumb and was ok!

She did not have much of a appetite that day. She seemed drowsier but still would not nap. The days following she was extremely fussy.

About 3 hours after her shots, she woke up from her nap SCREAMING in pain. Her legs were so sore from the vaccines that we couldn't touch her without her crying harder. Once we gave her some Tylenol, she was much better.
For her 4 month shots, we gave her Tylenol about an hour after the shots and had no problems, so we'll continue to do that for the rest of them.

Honestly, without knowing how your child is going to react, I would avoid the car trip until about 48 hours after the shots.
I typically take my daughter to get shots around mid day and then take her back to daycare. She's usually fine/tired that afternoon but about 12-36 hours after (for that entire 24 hr period) she runs a low fever and is fussy.

He did great! I nursed him within seconds of getting his shots and he fell asleep for 2.5 hrs. I gave Tylenol every six hours twice after getting the shots and he wasn't any fussier than usual.

She was a total pro and then slept 14 hours straight through that night. I don't think she was really any fussier than normal.

@Thehistoryofus: i wish we could wait a couple days but the doc office won't let us do the vaccines even a couple days before lo is 2 months old, and we have movers coming the day after so we don't have much of a choice
@BabyBoecksMom: This is a great idea, thanks! Calling the doc today to see if it will be ok to give her tylenol before the shots.

I think my LO did well after her 2 month appt. They gave her tylenol at the Dr's office so I think it helped.

We just had ours yesterday and other than the initial screaming from the shots, we had one brief fussy period a few hours after but that problem was solved by a little nursing. She must have just been extra irritable and wasn't about to tolerate waiting to eat.
We didn't have to go as far as Tylenol, but I bet if you had it on hand you'd be fine.

@betsyboop: You should give Tylenol before the shots because New research shows that giving it before the shots can make the vaccines less effective. But giving them a little afterwards is ok.

Our baby was a little fussier than normal for the rest of the afternoon after having her shots. I gave her some Tylenol when we got home from her shots, after she woke up. She slept totally normally that night, and by the next morning she was back to her cheerful self!

For those that gave Tylenol after the shots did your LOs have a fever? If not why did you give them Tylenol?

He was grouchy, but slept for much of the afternoon. That was the only one so far that he spiked a tiny fever, but it broke before we gave anything for it.
His 6 month vaccines yesterday, he was a but grouchy and sleepy, but no fever.

My LO had a very slight fever and was crankier than usual, but it only lasted that evening. She was back to her cheerful self the next day

@regberadaisy: she didn't have a fever but she was really sore from the shots. (She would scream if we touched her legs at all) So we gave her Tylenol to ease that pain.

DS was very sleepy the day he got his shots, but that night and the day after he was much fussier than usual. we have given him tylenol a couple times since(he just had his shots on tuesday) in case of fever, and if he's a little sore. today will probably be the last day he gets tylenol.

@betsyboop: I just read my response.... I meant to say you *shouldn't* give Tylenol before the shots because it can affect the effectiveness of the vaccines.

He passed out for most of the day from crying. But we also gave him Tylenol and he never got fussy from them.

He was totally normal most of the evening, but then at 9pm he had a big screamy-cry, and I just nursed him and held him and figured it was due to the shots.
(And then all night long I kept waking up to look at him, thinking he might be having a reaction or something).
