My husband is going to take our lo to the state fair on Thursday. It's going to be a surprise daddy day for her. She naps in the afternoon so it has to be a morning trip. Rides start at 10am and that is his plan for the day - just take her on a bunch of rides.
Here are the ideas we have thought about so far:

Leave the house around normal time and go out for breakfast. That's what we usually do.

I would definitely start right away (option 2)! Sometimes my kids get involved with activities at daycare and don't want to leave, so they get upset when I insist that it's time to go. Better to avoid that!

@lamariniere: I was kind of thinking that, as well. Picking her up an hour in might be more of a disruption than anything else.

I would leave at the normal time but hype up the outing. Maybe a special breakfast out with Dad?
I wouldn't drop her off at school only to pick her up 1hr later. IMO, that would disrupt my kid's expectations for the day and could back fire. And could possibly make it more difficult for the teacher/other kids staying at school (but that's just me).

@mediagirl: Your daycare might also be annoyed if you were just dropping her off for an hour...

I can't see the full responses. I would skip daycare for sure. Kids like routine, and I could see that option actually confusing LO, and possibly ruining the day.
I'm not sure kids understand surprise days (maybe she'll think it's the weekend with a fun activity?) ... but either way, I bet she'll love the fair.

Option 1- early pick up from daycare w/ a heads up for the daycare teachers. This sounda like a blast!!
