The kitchen and living room are all connected. It's so white and bland, but I'm afraid if we would paint all one color it would still look like too much of one thing and all washed out. Maybe the color wouldn't be so much if there were other decorations?

We have a relatively open-concept house, and we painted both the kitchen and living room-areas a neutral grey. We also stained our cabinets (similar colour to yours) a dark brown, so all together, it totally changed the look of the space.
I don't think the one colour looks monotone - I think it gives it a sort of cohesiveness. (We've got one accent wall in the kitchen, which does break things up a bit).

I would leave the ceiling white but paint the whole room the same color.

Your kitchen and breakfast area do not have that much wall space thanks to all the cabinetry and windows. A single color in the space will be fine. I think it looks like so much white because the appliances, doors, and window trims are all white. Once you add color the "too much" look will dissappear. I would stay away from yellow or golden hued colors since your floors, cabinets, and tables are in the warm honey family.

Personally, I would paint it all one color with maybe an accent wall. On the other hand, my parents have a similar situation, a clean delineation on one side and then on the other it is basically all one wall and they simply switched colors and made sure they had a very nicely painted line. I thought my mom was nuts but sure enough it worked for them!

i like the clean, bright look :). i vote for a fresh coat of bright white, and decorate away, or a light grey colour.

Our house is similar, in that the living room, dining room and kitchen all have shared walls. We painted all the walls with a dark beige.

I wouldn't be scared to go all the same colour, but you could also do the kitchen and the long window wall all the same colour and them do the rest of the living room in a different colour.

Personally I'd keep it a bright white and add pops of color in other ways.
I'm very minimalist and I love the bright white of Scandinavian style homes. Yours would look great white because of the warmth the wood already brings to the room.

I would paint it all one color - but if it was it was in the budget I'd add a glass tile backsplash for some pop in the kitchen.

I'm thinking one neutral color, a backsplash and then pops of color in the living room like a rug or some wall hangings.

I'd do one colour with an accent wall behind the couch.
I'd also do something with the cabinets (paint? New hardware?) but that's so totally personal (aka personally not a fan of wood coloured cabinets ;))

I really like things white, so I would sand and stain the cabinets white. It won't be as shiny looking as opposed to painting them white. That way I can focus on accent colors. But then again, I'm into a rustic look. But your kitchen is gorgeous, regardless of what you end up doing!
