We did it at 2 months and didn't think twice! When I saw your subject line I thought we were talking about like a two-week old! That is where I would draw the line probably.

We are planning on taking our twins across the country (5-6 hr direct flight) for Christmas to meet both families. I will be 38 weeks on Oct 2nd and that's the longest my OB will let them stay in. So based on that, the youngest they will be will be 11-12 weeks old.

My plans are to buy an extra seat and have a car seat put in the middle seat, so one of us can rest our arms or go to the bathroom. In addition, we will both baby wear. I think baby wearing, using a cover for the car seat and a cover if I need to breast feed will hopefully protect them from any airborne germs.

My OB says we should definitely get the okay from our pediatrician.

Btw, thanks for asking this question. I've been wondering about this, as well.

We did a first international flight at 3.5 months. I think under 1 month I wouldn't do it. Under 2 months, I'd really have to think about it. Baby-wearing will be your best friend! Good Luck!

The first time DD flew was at 2 months and she did great. It was a short 2 hour flight though. We relied on the pacifier a lot to soothe her. She slept the entire time.

We did our first flight at three months. No big deal. try not to worry. The whole world is unsanitary.

Following! DS due 8/25, we are planning to fly for Christmas (so, probably mid December) home to see family - it will be just one short 2 hour flight. I have been thinking that as long as he's full term and healthy, it should be fine.

I'd be game for anything after their 2 month shots/first round of vaccines!

I think most peds suggest around 2 months at the youngest for the vaccine reason.

After 2 months old I think your good to go.

We did our first flight at barely 3 months, and it was the easiest of all the flights we've taken with her (8 flights before 10 months). She was snuggled up against me in the carrier, tiny enough that her head/face was protected by the Ergo, and she slept the entire time, both ways

I flew with a 10 week old. He did great. I babywore and kept him tucked under the nursing cover the whole time. I think it's easier to travel with them when they are that young.

I'm flying in August with a 20 month old, now this going to suck (plus I'll have my 3 year old, 5 year old and I'll be 20 weeks pregnant)

I flew long haul (Hong Kong to Maui - 3 flights totaling a about 20 hours of travel in full) with a 10 week old....honestly that was the easiest trip I ever took with her! I was not concerned at all about being on the plane with her; I only would have been concerned if the destination was a developing country where she really should have had immunizations she wasn't eligible for because of her age.

3 months was the first time I flew with DS and by far the easiest. He basically slept the whole time.

I didn't even give flying with him a second thought at this age. I'm more hesitant now that he is over two and doesn't stay still!
