What job(s) did you come really close to doing but pursued another career in the end?
By 'close', I mean you took advanced courses, started an entry level job/internship in the field or interviewed for a position.
I almost became a flight attendant (final round interview -then pulled away by current job offer) or a librarian (partially completed Master's degree). So different. I became a teacher.

Nurse - my first semester was nursing and I was accepted into a very good program for my BSN before switching my major to marketing. I still regret this decision almost every day.

I worked in policy research after college for about 4 years and thought I would get a master's in public policy while working, but changed my mind and now I'm getting a phd in the humanities (though my focus is still on policy, just from a different academic field standpoint)

I almost became an Architectural Engineer. I went to school for that, and had an internship for over a year. I loved the internship and I excelled at it, but I hated the schooling. I pursued it for 3 years, but then decided I really didn't like it.
So then I went and got my 2-year degree in accounting instead!

Forensic anthropologist. Changed directions to public health in the last semester of undergrad.

A dental hygienist, I changed my major to Nutrition.

Psychologist - major in college, hated the professors, changed to Social Work
Genetic Counselor - completed application for Masters program, enrolled in the program, then chickened out at cost/time commitment. #regret -
Driver of the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile. I made it to the final round and they flew me to Wisconsin to interview, but I didn't make the cut in the end. I was super bummed but ended up with a lovely first job that's led to great things.

....a teacher! I was going to school for a degree in history. Turns out I'm not a fan of other people's children or college lol. I'm staying at home right now with DS, but I ended up in retail. I love retail, I actually past up a promotion to be a regional loss prevention manager, which is definitly my calling, because it required 4 to 5 days of travel up to 200 miles a week. (Would have come with a company car) DH was not a fan of that.
if I had been single and not ready to start a family I would have been all over that!

I don't think this counts but I wanted to be a doctor, physician assistant or a nurse. I knew I was going major in biology. When I graduated, my grades weren't good enough for med school and being a lab rat was my calling. I'm not sure if I would have liked working in patient care.

Police officer. I was taking classes towards a criminal justice degree and was looking into going to the academy, but then I moved and my boyfriend at the time talked me out of it. I regret it to this day.

@MrsBrewer: They were in Madison until last year when Heinz bought them and the HQ is moving to Chicago. (I live in Madison).
@catlady: I did the same thing, went to school to be an architect, got a degree, then went back to school for two more years to get an engineering degree. I'm a civil engineer now doing roadway/highway design. What kind of engineer are you?

Veterinarian. I got my undergrad in microbiology and was accepted to a vet med program, but chickened out on the cost of pursuing the degree and went into public health instead (with an assistantship - so no cost). I married a veterinarian instead

Almost teacher, I've never officially changed careers just debating it. I'm an engineer and though I have a love/hate relationship with it, I'm trying to make it what I want.

An insurance agent. OMG I don't regret it one bit! I did all the required education, got a job offer contingent on passing the state exam for insurance sales, and took the state exam. But I missed passing by 2 points.
I was going to take it again, then decided it's not what I wanted. -
A nurse! I did a CNA program and was doing pre reqs to get into an RN program. And I even got a job as an inhome CNA and hated it and quit everything. I'm so glad that I did. Caregiving (besides my children) is just not for me.

A child life specialist ... I deferred for a year while I did my education degree. I ended up loving teaching so I never went into the program. I think I would have loved being a CLS too, but my quality of life as a teacher can't be beat so I have no regrets.

I never came close to being anything but what I am, a registered nurse! I went into nursing right after high school and right from university to a full-time job so I never had the opportunity to pursue anything else!

Psychologist (halfway through my degree I changed it)....
then after I graduated, I almost became a makeup artist (was working the job while I went back to school a second time)
I became an interior designer instead.
if I had been single and not ready to start a family I would have been all over that!
