I read an article on fasting recently (was it in Harper's?) and it sounded really interesting. I'm considering doing one under medical supervision.
Has anyone ever done a fast, or known someone who did?

I've fasted lots of times but for religious purposes only.
What kind of fast are you thinking of?

I used to fast every once in a while before I got pregnant. For religious purposes--had some serious things to pray about, etc.
I loved fasting. It really gave me clarity and helped me focus.
Never did it under medical supervision though. The longest I went was 5 days just water.

@Rubies: I don't know much about them... I've only read that one article haha!
What are the different kinds?

@Rubies: I miss fasting! Without fail, every single prayer request was answered when I fasted.

I have a friend who did a juice fast for 10 days. Hunger is a big migraine trigger so I don't even fast for religious reasons.

@mrbee: Well, I've fasted from meat before...And I've fasted completely (just water to drink)...It's sort of like giving something up for Lent. Are you fasting for health reasons? You can just decide what you want to fast...

I've fasted for a day (except water) usually for religious reasons. Cleanses the body. Havent since I got pregnant though.

@mrbee: I fasted for the same reasons as @rubies.
There are:
~ Complete fasts where you you don't eat anything & just have water
~ Partial or restricted fasts where you refrain from just certain kinds of foods (like a veggie only fast)
~ Liquid fasts where you only consume juice & water
~ fasting a meal where you would just skip breakfast/lunch/dinner as you so choose.
I've only done a complete fast for a day, but have done a partial fast of only fruits, veggies, & nuts for 21 days (this is a "Daniel fast" when done for religious reasons)... the full fast was hard b/c when you start detoxifying it's not fun, I hear by day 3 you're over that though and it's not so bad.
I've read that fasting even a day a month or few days every few months can GREATLY benefit our health since it requires the body to detoxify itself.

I've done religious fasting. Is what you're planning to do more of a detox/cleanse?
My coworker did a home juicing one that she loved. It sounded interesting, but I was already pregnant when she started and couldn't try it out with her.

@runsyellowlites: Ah ok, I didn't realize those other things counted as fasts!
I would do a full fast... probably one day at a time at first and then later for a longer period.

@mrbee: yep lots of options! Full fasts really do have the best benefit though!
The 1st day is usually the hardest but LOTS of water helps. It's b/c you can tell all the toxins are being cleansed & sometimes it can give you a headache. Really by the 3rd day (just what I've seen & heard from DH and family) you're not all that hungry & even have more energy!
Maybe when I'm not preggers or ebf'ing I'll try another fast! Think I should avoid it for now though. lol

I'm not a fan of fasts - unless it's for religious reasons which is a whole different story.
They always talk about toxins being removed. I'm pretty sure that's what your liver is designed to do. I would be really careful about doing a fast. Your body needs food from a variety of sources. It's really not designed to run on water and juice for an extended amount of time.
If for health reasons I would probably just focus on eating really clean for a week. Safer and more healthy.

I have done blueprint cleanse and I LOVE it other than it being expensive. I felt AMAZING after wards, slept soo good, etc. Lost weight too but gained it back... If I had the money I would do it one weekend a month.

I have never fasted but I'm kind of interested in doing a cleanse. I've heard amazing things about them.
