Yeah I've been seeing that lately, such a bummer!

@Mrs. Bee: I wouldn't toss it. If you can afford the space, i'd save it and if a friend ASKS to have it, i'd give it away. Clearly, it was safe enough for your children's usage, so I wouldn't feel any guilt in giving it to another parent. I understand you can't advertise it or anything but it seems like such a shame to toss it when there are so many people who are in need and it is not an unsafe crib entirely.
I can't understand why it is even outlawed. It isn't drop-side is it? And even if it was, there are ways to fix that if someone wanted to.

I know. It sucks. We had the immobilizers for our drop-side crib and it seemed like such a waste to throw it away. That being said, I put it on the curb with a crib mattress and a note about the drop side and immobilizers, and it disappeared that night.

@CupQuakeWalk: yeah... I figured, an outdated crib is better than no crib? I did put in the note that they should probably run bolts all the way through to permanently secure the drop side, or just not use the drop side at all and use the crib as a daybed. We live on a bus route that goes into an urban neighborhood so I'm hoping someone is using it in some safe way!

Huh. Didn't know about this. My daughter is 3 and the crib was purchased in 2010... I was hoping to use it for another child in later part of 2014. But now I'm not sure - would you use a crib thats not compliant for a second child? It's taken apart and has been in storage now for probably 6 months (we had it as a toddler bed and now she's in a twin bed). Thoughts?

@PUI: It looks like the new regulations call for sturdier construction (stronger hardware and more rigorous testing). I thought a crib was going to be something I wouldn't have to replace. Joke's on me, I guess!

@ktdid23: I would definitely use it again and guess I did. DD's crib was purchased in Jan 2010 and DS is currently using it.

I understand that safety is very important and that changes in production methods, materials, etc make changes in the regulations necessary. However, I also feel that often these types of changes are ways to help increase consumerism and limit the ability to reuse items.
