Our 3 year old told us this last night and my heart broke into a thousand pieces.
Has your lo told you they don't like you?

No, but he did try and push me off the couch this morning. Didn't want me near him.

She's told me "I don't want you"; but it doesn't hurt my feelings. I dunno....every kid says this at some point, and I know she doesn't really mean it. Now, when she says it at 16 and MEANS it - yeah, my heart will hurt for sure!!!

Yes, this usually happens when we've told him something that he doesn't want to hear.
I tell him that's okay, he doesn't have to like me, but he doesn't have to hurt my feelings about it.

@yoursilverlining: Same. L tells us "no like daddy" or "no like mommy" and I am just "meh" about it. He doesn't get it, he's just trying to express his feelings with the vocabulary he has.

Oh yes, several times. When I tell him I love him he will sometimes say "I don't love you, I love Daddy." or even worse he'll say he loves my inlaws more. But I know he's just teasing me.
When he's really upset he says "I don't like you, you a bad Mommy." That stings.

Yes! And now it's changed into telling us we aren't best friends. I've told her that it's okay to not like me, but I'll still love her always. So now she will sometimes tell me that she's mad, doesn't like me but still loves me. I'm okay with that As long as she still tells me the same in her teenage years.

I told her I loved her the other night. She didn't say anything back. I asked her you don't love Mommy? She said no I love Daddy.
thanks kid

Yep, she started a couple weeks ago. The first time I freaked out and was so hurt, now I'm just like whatever.
Last night alone I heard:
"You're not my best friend anymore"
"I want a new mommy & daddy"
"I don't LIKE YOU"
"I'm not your mommy anymore" (which I think she wanted to say I'm not your daughter anymore)
When she said she wanted a new mommy and daddy I about broke down right then and there but I know she's just trying to say things that hurt me (and she's just started name-calling thanks to daycare) so it's a phase...that's what I'm telling myself. It's giving a glimpse into the teenage years I've been dreading already.

@Smurfette: oh we get that, too.
Kids. They're so nice at this age...
@BabyBoecksMom:
@MamaG: that's sweet. I may have to try that.
@looch: that's pretty much when we hear it, too. Last night it was when we took her away from the kitchen table for a "break" and this morning when my husband told her to come downstairs.
@yoursilverlining: I know she doesn't mean it but it's still so sad to hear!
