A lot of people are mad at NBC for using a tape delay and not showing events live. But if they showed events on London time, then wouldn't people then DVR it and get hit with spoilers anyway?
Also: how in the world could anyone afford to purchase the broadcast rights to the Olympics and then not do a tape delay to prime time? The numbers just wouldn't add up. They would get outbid by someone else who was willing to tape delay.
I guess given all that, I don't really get why people are upset about the tape delay. I mean, tape delays suck but how would the alternative work? It's the fault of the Olympics for selling the broadcast rights for so much, instead of just offering the live streams for free to PBS and other public broadcast channels.
The way I see it, people should be mad at the Olympics or the overall "system"... and not at NBC. I must be missing something?
