I mean, they always have a tape delay, right? I'm more mad about things being given away. Like I know I could look up and see who won the women's gymnastics, but don't put a spoiler in a headline. So I'm not going on any newsites, facebook, twitter, until I see it. The fact that they spoiled that swim race yesterday is pretty bad though. Are we THAT much more used to instant gratification than 2 years ago at the winter?

Of course there is going to be a tape delay. You can't get upset about that. Now those spoilers on the other hand....oy.

I also don't understand why people are upset about the tape delay. ESPECIALLY since you can watch everything live at nbcolympics.com if you want to! I think people just want to be able to do whatever they want and get upset when the world doesn't revolve around them. They want to watch an event live ON their TV and they can't, so they get mad. It's silly!

Personally, I really appreciate the time delay. I can't watch the Olympics during the day, so I like being able to get the highlights at night during prime time.

I guess with Beijing, they convinced the Olympics to have a lot of the "big" events early in the morning, Beijing time, so that they could air it live here in the USA. A lot of people in the Olympics were upset by that, but I'm sure a lot of American viewers really liked being able to watch things live, and are upset that it's different this year. Unfortunately, to be able to do the same thing, they'd have to convince the Olympics to host events at 3:00 a.m., so obviously that's not going to happen.

I was really upset that the main media outlets gave out spoilers and actually told results in the title. I think they should have said, Women's Gymnastic Final Results in instead of their actually placemement. It really made me mad yesterday. You couldn't go to any type of search engine without them ruining it.

As far as the delay, I don't really mind since most people wouldn't be able to watch it during the day.

I am so mad at NBC and their coverage. I've lived in 2 other countries and they NEVER tape delayed the olympics. I cant watch live online this year due to work, but in an ideal world I would DVR it and watch it at lunchtime.
Do they air Pro Sports hours after the match occurs? No! That would be ridiculous.

I'm also mad that they are inconsistant about showing scores. They didn't even give out Aly's result last night.
Also they only showed two countries - It's not the Russia and USA show! There are more teams competing!

For the next Olympics, I either want to be there, or be in a country that has good coverage. The coverage here is AWFUL!

I was glad they delayed the opening ceremony because otherwise I would have been at work and wouldnt get to see it and I dont have dvr

@sweetchic: Well, ABC has no incentive not to spoil it! They would rather you turn off the Olympics because you know what happens I don't get NBC spoiling its own broadcast, though.

@travelingbrit: I'm not positive about this, but it kind of looked like multiple events were going on at the same time during the gymnastics final last night. When they were showing the Russian floor routine, I could see the Americans in the background doing the bars (or was it beam? I can't remember now). I'm not sure if would be possible to show ALL of the teams LIVE (if events occur simultaneously).

@Adira: I know, but I'm too lazy to hook up my laptop to our TV and watching it on my small computer screen is lame. #firstworldproblems lol

Live or not live, the coverage of the gymnastics was sub-par.
There was no consistancy to how they edited. Sometimes they showed scores, sometimes they didnt.
They showed the US team looking up at the scoreboard for their results, but then switched cameras before the result was posted. SO had to get online to see Aly's final score.
I feel like the gymnastics coverage was purely highlights.

In contrast, the equestrian eventing coverage showed every rider from every country. They kept the scores on the screen throughout so that everyone could see the standings.

@mrbee: I'd probably DVR the weekday events and watch the weekend events live since I work M-F 9-5. When I lived in Canada, I don't think they tape delayed things. I think they showed the highlights again for the evening broadcast.

@travelingbrit: I agree with your comments about the editing... they didn't show the score for the 2nd Russian girl who did great on the bars, and they didn't show Aly's score at the end. It was all over the place.

i'm streaming at work and don't have cable, so no spoilers for me. even when i know the outcome, i like to go back and watch!

I don't mind the delay, but I do agree with @TravelingBrit regarding the coverage of events, particularly the gymnastics. I have always loved watching as many countries as possible as they move through their rotations. It really was more like a recap than coverage!
