Sucks! I found out yesterday. I guess I should have seen it coming because I worked all the way up to the exam and only studied at night.. my new job just wouldnt give me time off for that.

I'm so sorry!
Those big tests take sooo much time and energy to study for. I have the option to take the Engineering test to get my license, but I don't think I could handle the test.
Are you going to re-take it?

I'm really sorry to hear. Get back up...dust yourself off and try again!

I am so sorry. I hope you get some study time before you take it again next!

Hopefully you can get more study time before you take it again. How long do you have to wait?

I'm sorry! That is SO hard if you were working! I didn't work at all leading up to the exam and studied 8-10 hrs/day. It seems like it would be impossible to pass if you were working too! There is always February. I wish you lots of luck!

I'm so sorry!!! Do they tell you which sections you struggled on so you can focus your studying and kick its ass next time??

I'm sorry:(. At least you know what to expect when you retake it:(

@Mrsbells: Awwww. I'm sorry to hear that. Do you think you'll take it again next year? Do you think your job will give you the time to study then when you won't be new? When I worked at a law school I know when it was time for the bar those students were living and breathing studying -- nothing else going on. So you having to work, while also taking care of a toddler, that's a lot!

I'm sorry! That sh*t is hard, yo! You should be proud you were able to study the amount you did with a child and a full time job!!

i'm sorry. the bar sucks. it doesn't say anything about one's ability as a lawyer.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
Aww That sucks. Make sure you carve out study time for the next time.

I'm so sorry! That really sucks. I just took the PE (kind of like the bar equivalent for engineers) and won't find out for 8 weeks. I can't imagine only being able to study at night with a toddler. Moving ahead, you can use it as a diagnostic and know where you need to focus time studying. And you know what to expect next time. Hang in there - I know a ton of fantastic engineers that didn't pass their PE the first time and I know it's the same with lawyers. Good luck.

@Mrsbells: sorry lady - bar exams are tough. Hopefully next time you can take off a couple of weeks beforehand. Did you take any of the bar prep courses? I really like Barbri.

Taking the bar sucks!!! So does studying for it . . . I can't imagine trying to prepare for the bar while working full time and being a mama! I'm so sorry!

I'm so sorry to hear this! You're about to be flooded with success stories from people who passed on their second or third go around. I have a friend who failed, then passed the next time. Two years later he was on the front page of our local paper in a profile of the firm that he'd started. Now he's very successful. I have several other friends who passed on their second time.
What was the pass rate for your testing group? I have a friend who failed in California last year. Her group had a pass rate of something like 36%, so she had zero shame. Passed the next time.

I am so sorry. The NY Bar is one of the hardest ones. That sucks. Are you planning to take it again?

I'm so sorry that is so hard. I have a big entrance test for nursing school coming up and sometimes I literally can't sleep because of the anxiety. You are right, studying with a toddler and a job is near impossible.
I hope you can take it again soon, and maybe carve out a few specific days to study? Good luck!

i am so sorry to hear this - new york is a ridiculously hard bar exam.

Ugh I'm so sorry Like PP said, brush yourself off and crush it next time. And don't be discouraged. I personally know many successful attorneys (even managing partners of firms) who didn't pass the CA bar the first time. Not sure if you've seen this, but when I was studying and was feeling discouraged I'd think of all the crazy successful people who didn't pass the first time. http://abovethelaw.com/2007/07/the-bar-exam-a-list-of-famous-failures/

I'm sorry!! Definitely don't get down on yourself though. You gave it your all! Maybe sign up for February so you have the holidays to work on things?

I'm sorry! My cousin failed the first time, but nailed it the second time. Do you have a quiet, distraction free place to study at night? Having a kiddo and working definitely makes it way harder!

@Mrsbells: aww I'm sorry. My grampa has had a very successful law career of about 40 years, senior partner of his firm, and failed twice I believe, before he passed it. You'll get it next time
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
I'm sorry! By next year you will have vacation time built up to study? Good luck for next year. And that stings! Hugs.
GOLD / pomegranate / 3938 posts
I'm so sorry. I've heard the NY bar is harder than the CA bar. I think you absolutely need to take time off to study. Did you take a BarBri course or anything like that? The courses will usually give you a second course for free if you don't pass the first time.

Oh no! The NY Bar Exam is very hard to pass! So sorry to hear this!
