I found him not breathing...wish it wasn't real. (But he's okay!)

@Mrs. Jacks: The room was kind of dark so I thought maybe but didn't look closely! I've heard mixed things about these home monitors too so I only got it thinking if it went off once or twice I'd just have something more concrete than "his breathing sounded funny". I didn't imagine I'd get there and he still wouldn't be breathing.

I hope, based on this episode, that they can get him in for his sleep study pronto. Otherwise, you would be completely justified in taking him to the ER...no need to be stoic on this one. Hope you get answers very soon! Sending love!

omg! so scary! Everyone thinks i'm nuts for using the snuza but this is exactly why. Hope you learn more if he has apnea soon.

@travellingbee: I'm sorry I missed your question earlier! They were going through a pre-sedation questionnaire and I mentioned that I've heard him having episodes lately where his breathing is loud and he sounds like he's having more and more trouble breathing, and then I suddenly stop hearing him, and after a long time he starts breathing again. She said that sounded a lot like apnea, and brought in other staff members to hear me describe it.

He sleeps in our room and I happened to be having insomnia. I'm not sure I would have heard it over a monitor!

The doctor happened to be sensitive to the issue because apparently an infant had recently passed in her family.

The ped office still hasn't called for the expedited GI appt which we requested on Wednesday. If having a dr from the hospital call to tell them about the urgency and us telling them about yesterday's incident doesn't motivate them, what will?! During his surgery a few weeks ago they had issues with his breathing tube and said something to the ped about the reflux too. I seriously feel like the women at the desk are so lazy they're waiting for him to die.

Do you think I should go to the office when they open this morning to say something in person?

@spaniellove: I would. To me, that is unacceptable. I hope you get some answers, and I hope they have been working on it for you and just not saying anything.

@spaniellove: yes, and I would ask to speak to the head nurse or your pediatrician. This is unacceptable.

I am so sorry. I haven't had time to read all of the replies but I am so so sorry you have to go through all this.

I did have a chance to read your last update and I would for sure go up there. It is not acceptable that they ignore your request. The urgency is too important and well dang it, it's their job!

I wonder if you could get an urgent care appt to see your ped this morning??? Someone needs to get this ball rolling. And if you have ANY other concerns, definitely go to the pediatric ER!

@spaniellove: i would go in this morning and insist they get stuff taken care of. Then I'd look for a new ped right away. If your Lo didn't have any medical issues their complacency would be kind of annoying, but he does have medical issues that require immediate action, and it kin of sounds like they are just treating you as a "typical ftm overreacting to every little thing" or something. You don't want to have to fight with them over every issue that comes up.

Good luck getting everything sorted out. Little J is lucky to have a mama like you to fight for him.

@spaniellove: so sorry this is happening. I agree that you should go in person. I would absolutely find out which department you can call with a grievance, if this isn't a private practice, and talk with the office manager if it is.

Our doctor happened to be on his way out so we got to talk to him, which was good! He explained that the doctors at the other practice have not been in and are not calling them back so if by Monday they still can't get J into a specialist at this practice within a day or two they'll call one other practice or have him admitted. Of course I'm hoping he doesn't end up being admitted because we've seen enough of the hospital! But it's good that we finally have a plan. Apparently no one had passed on the message to him about the stopping breathing thing.

Our ped ended up sending us to a different hospital so he could just get admitted and get all the testing done and get all the answers we need. It's further away but we feel better knowing we won't have to wait anymore.

@spaniellove: I hope you get answers soon and that your LO feels better.

A friend's son stopped breathing and turned blue... she finally got him breathing while the ambulance was in route. They admitted him and after a ton of testing said they thought it was due to pneumonia. She knew he had a cold, but really didn't think it was that bad. He was ok though and has been fine since.

We used a Snuza and it only went off 2-3x in 6 months - they were all false alarms due to poor placement (e.g., I'd clipped it on the swaddle and not the diaper because I'd forgotten to put it on initially. It gave me peace on mind, which I needed after my neighbor's newborn son died in his sleep (don't know the details...if it was SIDS or what).

Again, I'm so sorry you went through that.
