My son is 2 1/2 and I could hear him kicking around in his crib for about an hour at nap time. I was trying to take a nap myself and all of a sudden I heard a loud thud and then screaming. Sure enough, he tried to climb out and did a flip out of his crib. I guess this is our cue to take the rails off and let him try a big boy bed. I am very nervous for what this night will bring. I have very low expectations that he will actually stay in his bed.

You know, when we first switched LO always stayed in bed and would sit there until I went to get him, it was funny, then one day he realized he could get out. We had a rough week or so, then rules were set and he knows he has to stay in bed, so hang in there. Could be a bit dicey for a few days then it should work out!

This happened to us a few weeks ago! We've been dealing with nightmares and separation anxiety sleep issues so the transition to big boy bed can't hold a candle to all that
but it didn't make it worse!Good luck!

My almost 2 year old flipped herself out of her crib a month or so ago. I think it scared her so much she hasn't tried again! I was not getting rid of the crib lol. I figure if she does it again then I'll take her seriously!

@hellobeeboston: That is comforting. He played in his bed all day so I am pretty sure he knows he can get out. Fingers crossed!
@catomd00: I thought about that, but then I was worried he might actually hurt himself next time, so we just went for it.

My son flipped out of the crib as well. He was not quite two and I was not quite ready to deal with a toddler bed transition, so I just took the cross pieces out of the bottom of the crib and now the mattress is on the floor within the 4 sides of the crib and he definitely isn't tall enough to get out.

We switched DS to a floor bed at 22 months. It's been a month almost and he stays in bed almost all the time. I think DH has found him out of bed once! It was much less traumatic than I expected.

@BabyTsMom: Well, the first night went just fine. He went right to sleep and when I woke up I could hear him in there so I walked in and he said, "I was just getting out of my bed!" So, we will see what happens tonight.
