I think it's a rainbow cookie??
ETA: If I am right, I have no idea why it's called a cookie

I thought it was some kind of Italian cookie? And of course google it, and one name is Italian flag cookie. Wikipedia has 6 or 7 different names for them.

I don't know. I've never seen one before. I DO know, though, that it belongs in my mouth.

@pwnstar: @snowjewelz: I just thought there was a different name?

Yep, rainbow or 7 layer cookie! Pretty sure they're an Italian thing.

@regberadaisy: the internet tells me they're also called Napoleon or Venetian cookies. Not sure what they're called around here, though...

I honestly don't think I've ever seen that before, so I would have no idea.
@travellingbee: @Pancakes: Huh. See, to me, this is a 7-layer cookie. They're a tradition in my family.

Rainbow cookie! They are made without leavening agents so they are eaten at Passover.

Mmmmm. I ate one of those in NYC once and loved it. I thought I could find them in North Beach (San Francisco's Little Italy), but no one knew what the heck I was talking about when I described them, nor when I Googled them and asked for them by name. I guess it's an east coast thing?

@sometimesshesings: I'm not sure how authentic Italian it is? Like I'm thinking you won't find it in Italy! I asked a friend who's Italian and her grandfather who came over had no idea what it was.
But it's really good whatever it is! I've never seen it at a Italian bakery either!

@regberadaisy: Well, the one I tried was from an Italian bakery in NYC... but maybe not an authentic one?? It seems like most of the bees who responded live in NY, so maybe it's a New York thing! Sad for me!

Delicious? Never seen one before, and Italian, and Jewish. I guess I'm missing out!

@sometimesshesings: yup I'm in NY too! Maybe it's specific to certain regions in Italy?? LOL

@regberadaisy: btw, thanks a lot! You've re-triggered my old obsession with getting my hands on these!!
Maybe I can have them shipped to me?

@regberadaisy: there were trays of these (about 30 per tray, only these) for sale at the grocery store today.
I always thought they were called Napoleons

I do live in NY, but never realized these cookies were a regional thing. I can't believe you can't find them in San Francisco!!
