In utero, my boys were in two separate sacs and had separate placentas. Because of this, my OB said most likely they are fraternal twins. After they were born we weren't sure but thought they are fraternal. But now, it seems like they're looking more alike and we're thinking they might be identical. What do you think, bees? Should we do a DNA test to know for sure?

My god they are cute! I don't understand the identical thing bc I've def been told people who look exactly alike aren't identical. They look identical to me but it wasn't clear from the sac or placenta or whatever?

That being said I went to K-12 with twin boys who looked, talked and acted identical in every way, but they were actually fraternal twins. You would have never known they weren't identical!

I would get them tested! Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are fraternal, though, and I think they look identical!

@Foodnerd81: if they were in the same sac, they definitely would have been identical. But from there it gets tricky and basically comes down to when the egg split after being fertilized, if they are identical, on if they are in two sacs or one or have two placents or one.

I'm an identical twin. They look pretty identical to me but I guess my question is, what benefit would having them tested serve (especially since you have to pay for the test).

Ours are di/di and obviously fraternal since they're also b/g. I think you actually have a really hard decision, but I think it may ultimately matter to them, more than you. To me, it's sorta like telling them who was born first. I'm all for being honest, but others would argue that it doesn't matter. GL with whatever you choose! That's a really hard one.

It's crazy that they could be identical even with 2 sacs and placentas! It's hard to tell which they are bc I definitely know fraternal twins who are very hard to tell apart but man, yours look so similar! And they are just so so so cute!

There is also a third option (I am a twin told my entire life we are fraternal, but very identical looking) and that is semi identical. This is where the egg splits and is inseminated by two sperm. It's been proven once or twice now.

Yeah, I can't see how if they were identical, that they'd be in a separate sac and placenta, but I'm no doctor and I'd definitely want to know for myself!
I wonder if the olsons did testing because they for sure look identical.

I would probably want to know but there are things I didn't think about until @twoofeverything: mentioned it in terms of how they would feel, etc. DH has a twin sister but his big hang up is that his family always made a big deal that he was younger, he always waited to be fed after his sister, etc.
They are both precious!
